cylinder = cylinder (wide open)

skeet = skeet

imp cyl = 1/4

mod = 1/2

imp mod = 3/4

and full is well, full :lol:

there are things like light mod which is 3/8, light full, 7/8 but the above is a good rule of thumb for the "standards" you will tend to get with your gun.

on a note with chokes, the markings are a rough guide as different manufacturers use slightly different constrictions for each. A beretta 1/4 may be slightly tighter than say a browning 1/4. and different shells will pattern tighter or wider. Spend a very interesting few hours shooting at a pattern plate with different choke and cartridge combinations and find the one which suits your gun :good:

This sort of question has cropped up many times and as always life is never simple.

Many manufacturers call their chokes by name or figures or notches or whatever they feel like, and they tend to be similar but often Different sizes too.

Is there a demand for an International Standard?, not that I have heard, but it makes sense if you ask me, will it ever happen? I doubt it!

Hi all , new to this game , just bought a browning O/U and it has got the chokes in the barrels, so how do i know what size they are? 1/4 ,1/2 or full they are invector flush

I was really hung up on chokes for a while and did loads of research into when I should switch and for what; funnily enough and after all that research, I've only ever taken the chokes out of mine for cleaning. Same chokes fitted now as when it arrived..
