gixer1
Folks, Quick question, if you sell a shotgun/firearm to someone at the other end of the country and you send via RFD, you still need to fill out a sale/transfer form - which is ok but what do people do when they get to the section where you sign to say you have completed section 1 or 2 of his/her firearms/shotgun certificate??? I have never seen this guys cert obviously and don't like signing something where by i cannot complete the form correctly, surely there should be another option on the form as this doesn't suit! I know this should be common sense and that a covering letter can be sent with it (which i have done) but common sense doesn't seem common when it comes to our sports governing body! Any thoughts on what should happen in the above circumstance? Regards, Gixer

henry d
I believe the RFD did it when I sold a gun that way.
kyska
I believe the RFD did it when I sold a gun that way. Yea, last time I rfd'd you hand the gun to the rfd who fills out your cert, the rfd at the other end does the same.
MC
You still need to notify the police that you don't own it anymore.
gixer1
I take it that it doesn't matter that i am selling to an RFD? should i go back and get the RFD at my end to fill anything out? Never done this send through RFD malarky!
kyska
You still need to notify the police that you don't own it anymore. Yep, so I think you tell the police that you have given care of the gun to RFD XXX in your letter.

clayman
While the police produce various forms you can download / copy and use, the Fire-arms act does not require you use them. The requirement is that you notify. You can hand write a letter, use email / fax or what-ever means you like as long as you do it in the required time and provide the statutory information. If you sell to an RFD you tell your FLD in exactly the same way as a private sale, quoting the RFD Registration no in place of a SGC no - but you have no buyer's certificate table to complete. If its a private sale, you have to fill out the SGC table on the buyer's certificate.
vampire
As has all been said above, when sending a gun by rfd they must take the gun off your licence, you remain legally responsible if they dont, you notify police by registered post within 7 days, the recieving rfd then puts it on the new owners licence. I have sold a gun in the past that the rfd did not take off my licence, which i was ingnorant to the above until renewing my licence and had a call from the police to ask where this gun was  after i explained they sorted it all out and reminded me of my responsibilties as a licence holder
clayman
Its a bit more than that. BOTH parties in every transaction (except RFD to RFD) are required by law to inform the police within 7 days. It says so clearly on your SGC, . The RFD must inform they have acquired or sold a gun, the buyer / seller has the same obligation. Police match the two notifications and update the National Register. Either party in the transaction that fails to correctly notify is risking possible criminal conviction and / or removal of their certificate. ALWAYS notify and keep a copy.
