camokid
hi all. i mannage to get out wednesday morning after a fox that i spotted at the weekend when i was pigeon shooting. after a houre or so waiting i seen somthing move in the hedge row looked down the scope expecting a fox but supprised to see a nice munty buck. i waited a moment for him to come out into the open and placed a shot. he jumpted up and ran about 10 yards before dropping. now im no bucher but thought id share with you how i prep the meet for the table. nice head not medal nice but still a good wall pice next out to the garden where the work is done. now time for skinning i start at the back legs then pull skill down to the head then cut off. you have the hide then to do whatever you wish right time to get the hands dirty. i start bottom up. front legs off first the one of them is most of the time no good cuz of the shot damage, then onto the loins then back legs then strip what i can off. this is what im left with.spine rib cage now once i have all the meat i want its back inside for a wash right i find this the longest part but when you have trimmed the bits of fat and silver skin you are left with some fine meat, i also bone out a leg to get to the steaks. last job skin the head and save for another day to boil out well thats the lot just a quick look on HOW I DO IT. now wheres the mint sauce

camokid
well if im sick the next day guess i will no. over all he looked in good health nothing that was alarming. he was most likley at a good age going from teeth and antlers they can live up to 20years if there was something that wrong in the wild they would not last. i feel far better eating him that getting a ready coocked chicken from asda

Cosd
That was very interesting!! Thanks for that. The meat looks lovely too, I've never tried muntjak.Any good? What would one have to pay for one of these if someone was willing to sell one they shot? I'm sure a while back someone asked to buy one and someone obliged, but can't remember a price being posted. cooter
i wish i could skin them as cleanly as that! I with you on this. Munty have the toughest skin of any deer I have shot, and if you let it get cold you seem to loose half the meat in the following fight. Nice looking animal you shot there camokid.
Dunkield
That skin would make a nice rug in front of small open fire Do you skin them warm or cold? Also which bullets are you using? I appreciate you have pinged a rib but that exit wound looks bigger then I see using Amax's
Salop Matt
Cammokid - Are the munti new to your area ? I am desperate for them to put in an appearance over here in shropshire. The meat is great eating and if i could a permition with them on I could put in for my .223 and have it for fox and munti. I would give my left nut to see munti in this area esp if i had the chance to take a few !

Nice looking animal you shot there camokid. i must say i only shoot muntjak. cant get hold of any land with roe or any other deer so cant compare skinning but i find it easy once i have cut the back legs i just use force and pull all the way down to the neck then cut the neck/head of skins in one piece. thanks
