Further to my mate digit and me attempting to skin and cure a fox pelt, this picture shows the 'end' result. The fur has got to be brushed etc, but the tanning process worked well.

(I only wanted the photo to attach once!)

I,m being curious could you tell me what you used to tan the skin?

Good work :good:

Is it like a slab, or does it move like a rug?

....Bet it ******* stinks

No, it's not like a slab, and the skin is like leather. It's not going to be used as a rug anyway. And, No, it does not stink, because that's what tanning etc does, it removes the 'stink'.

To tan it, I used tanning chemical bought from Snowdonia Taxidermy Supplies. It comes in powder form, and you dilute it to make 2 gallons. All you do, after preparing the pelt, is soak it for approx two days, then wash it out. You can buy oils to rub into the skin if required, but I have'nt done this.

Would be interested to have a tub of that tanning stuff in the garage for future use. Have you got a link?

Not got a link sorry, but if you google the whole name, it will take you to their site.

The tanning chemical costs around £18.50 inc pp, and will last you a hell of a long time.

It can be used a few times before it has to be refeshed.

Steve.
