I had one a few years ago. Very reliable and well put together, the only issues I had with mine were availability of spare parts they are hard to get hold of and fuel economy which on mine was poor. I replaced mine with a Suzuki vitara which didn't feel as solid but spares are plentiful and fuel economy was much better. I now drive a isuzu trooper which I like but if I was going to get another small 4x4 I would look at a suzuki jimny. Cheers owain.

its alot of car for that 1.6 engine so mk1s would overheat ..that said iv had a few and loved them,i found with the bolt off roof they are the muts to lamp out of as well.

iv still got a spare front roof set up with rota lights incase i get another ...<incase=when>. atm im using the terios because its the slimmest 4x4 i could get <any slimmer and you would be lamping off a BMX>

I had the 1.6i Sportrak, good and cheap - I found a nice 1 owner car from a lady.

The only problem was it wouldn't really go above 65 mph (and the 5th gear was all but used up at 50 mph and screamed for mercy at anything over). For a 1.6i it was slow as you like and as Alex says the fuel economy was dreadful - why, I don't know. We are talking 25 mpg at best when taking it easy.

I would suggest the big brother Fourtrak but they are all getting on a bit now - the only ones you see are tatty or pulling caravans.

Hmmm...I do really want a fourtrak ! I agree that they are getting on a bit, but that isn't a great worry. I am able to tackle any job on a motor vehicle, except welding, which my mate does for next to nothing (I look after his vehicles in return).

So its back to a Fourtrak, or maybe a Frontera, they look like good value but are they 'proper' off roaders? :good:
