pigeon predator
What ear protection do you guys find best for pigeon shooting? Usually use electronic defenders when clay bustin but can't use then very good when I've got face vail on for pigeons as they won't sit over the top, and dont want to go without cos years without have left my old man with tinatus
Cosd
I use Sonic II, found them a little uncomfortable when I first got them but they do soften and now wearable all day and not irritating at all. Obviously there are the moulded type which are much more expensive, but for £10'ish the sonics work well and you can chat in the hide and speak on the phone with them in, so that works for me. steve_b_wales
I use the Pro 9 defenders, available from Deben or Ebay. They are lightweight and really work. When worn, I hardly know that I have then on.

kighill
This is a good question and I am looking forward to see all the replies, I use the foam type which you squish and put into your ear, E-A-R soft fx. The problem with me is the amount of wax my ears produce, resulting in blocked ears, dirty ear plugs and once leaving me with an inner ear infection. I am often reminded of the old saying "never put anything in your ear smaller than your elbow" Other than suggesting trying to grow potatoes I hope this problem may also be resolved under the same question. (I am not likely to be the only one suffering in this way) I also will be pigeon shooting and wearing a veil, possibly causing further problems in solving the situation. TJ91
i got some moulded ones at a gamefair a coupel years ago, £50 for 2 pairs. 1 pair has tiny filters so i can hear people talk when near them, and hear the birds wings/call the other pair are just solid have had big bulky electric things in the past but they were a nuisance only problem witht he moulded in ear things is they are easy to lose

harpoonlouis
I have the Sonic II and the moulded version of the same, generally V good but in the howling gales we just had they really cause a hell of a roaring if the wind catches them at the wrong angle so I also carry a few brand new EAR soft plugs just in case. Katzenjammer
I have to say that I find the spongy type of earplugs quite difficult to insert and to keep in my ear. To be honest I use a good wodge of cotton wool and find this deadens the sound much more effectively than the ear plugs. This is discarded and not reused as earplugs can be. harpoonlouis
I teach new shooters every week and they all struggle with the plugs because they don't read the instructions! Roll them gently beteen your finger until they are completely squashed width ways and then pop them into your ear canal and wait until the expand to fill you ears, you can't push them in unless they are squidged up properly- I loose the first 10 minutes of every shoot explaining that! Katzenjammer
Please ignore entered in error. Pardon! Incidentally if anyone thinks I am putting my hearing at risk with this method then please say. But if you do so can you do it in capital letters because I am a bit deaf!
