steyrman
Right lads i will be in the market for a .223 at the end of the month we all know that the tikka t3 is very good but there is a remmy 700adl for sale at a not bad price. But i have heard quite a few negative remarks for the remmy's I.E. you have to spend money on them in order to get the best out of them is this right Sorry mods i have this in the wrong section Edited February 13, 2011 by steyrman
Paddy Galore!
I've heard some funny stories about the cheaper models, such as bores not central to the barrel which would make fitting a mod interesting, but some of the more expensive versions look quite good, such as the laminate stainless, a very pretty gun. Kes
Hi, I have a Remington 700 VL. They are, IMHO rather better than Tikka and dont require any changes to shoot 1/2" at 150 out of the box. I use 40 grain v max and handload Vit N 133. The only gripe I have is I hate the floor plate magazine as its a pian when foxing - the Varmint barrel is heavy so I'd avoid it unless you are cometition shooting. Buy it. Cheers
snowz
Remmington rifles are the most sold rifles in the world that speaks for itself, they have more after Market bits than other makes an all if not most custom actions are on remington foot prints. So if they're that bad surely they wouldn't sell??
bongo321
The beauty is you can custom your 700 , But as said out the box is brilliant , out today wind and rain 1" groups 200yds the norm
steyrman
Well when you put it like that Snowz Remington sell plenty so i think i will have a go at buying that 700adl will it be a short action ? as i am sourcing a thumbhole stock for it. is the 700adl a 1-12 twist so 60g bullets will be the max or am i wrong ? and i want to shorten the barrel from 26" but am unsure how much to take off any advice lads
snowz
Upto .308 is short action and 55/60gr might be the max for 1-12 but you'd have to try an see what shoots best.. As for barrel length that's up to you but 20-22" would be a good length for foxing Plenty of folk on here to help you along the way Good luck

Cheers WHAT A PILE OF TOSH. THERE'S A REASON THERE'S SO MANY MODS LIKE RUGER 10/22'S THERE NOT THE BEST OUT THE BOX. THE REASON THEY SELL MORE IS BECAUSE THERE CHEAP AND BEEN ABOUT A LONG TIME EVERYONE KNOWS THE NAME THERE MADE IN AMERICA AND AMERICA'S A BIG PLACE THEY BUY THERE OWN MAKES. LOOK ON THE NET WHAT YOU CAN BUY FOR A QUALITY RIFLE LIKE TIKKA/SAKO THEY DONT NEED TO BE MODIFIED.
steve42
Had an ADL a while back and found it a very good rifle only down side was the blind mag , which ment to empty the rifle the rounds had to be cycled with the bolt, have also had tikka's which are also very good .I agree with sparkie the lower end of the 700 range out of box accuracey is not the best ,how ever they are cheap enough to customise .If you decide to go with a remmy stick with the 700 action Edited February 14, 2011 by steve42
garyb
They are good... but better than a tikka? I don't think so - They are both very much the same. Handle a couple side by side and compare the triggers, balance, action etc and then decide. I don't like the safety on the 700...
al4x
there are a few issues with 700's and the main one is there are many more sold worldwide than most rifles particularly in the states, for what is effectively a cheap gun they tend to shoot pretty well out of the box. Because of their popularity people like to improve on them so you have a massive range of aftermarket parts available. The general concensus is the triggers and stocks can be improved on, I can't comment on this as mine had them done when I got it, however the rifle with them done shoots very well. Mine has had a hogue stock and riflebasix trigger and its been faultless since I've had it, you'll see it in the sale section when my .243 turns up (if it turns up) Mine is the SPS with a light barrel which I possibly wouldn't have chosen to start with but the benefits have really grown on me when you have to carry it about its a joy. Can't comment on the Tika bit only as far as not liking the plastic stock on them
6br
The remington 700 has got to be the most copied action in the world that must tell you some think. I brought my first 700 BDL in 1993 from the shooting lodge in Yorkshire sent my certificate to them to have it put on then they sent it through the post to me paid £425.00 a very good accurate rifle and served me very well, the last rem 700 I brought was about 7 years ago and I don't think it was as good as the first one but after fitting tubbs firing pin and spring and changing the stock to a HS precision and a bit of work on the trigger it's now used as my main fox/vermin rifle, I also have a few tikka's 595's and M55 but the remington gets used the most. snowz
Don't rush into it unless you need to, have a try before you buy if you can. I've had a tikka m595, now got a Remmy 700 and also getting a M590 It's all down to personal preference and price
