Cosd
You do realise you are only supposed to shoot pigeons if they are causing damage to crops! Maybe you need to brush up on the laws.....

Sm0kah
you learn something new every day i have just recently started shooting and have not shot any pigeons on the land yet but the land up the road has crops on but the chap said he has a few people already shooting on it i would sugest going around looking for permission to shoot else where. Where pigeons are actualy doing damage to farmers crops where you can enjoy it and at the same time help the owner of the land with the problem of his crops getting damaged.....makes it worth while. chrispti
You do realise you are only supposed to shoot pigeons if they are causing damage to crops! Maybe you need to brush up on the laws..... So flight line and roost shooting is against the law is it
chrispti
you learn something new every day i have just recently started shooting and have not shot any pigeons on the land yet but the land up the road has crops on but the chap said he has a few people already shooting on it The pigeons you are seeing, will be/ have been, feeding on crops. preventing serious damage to crops, is the reason you will be shooting them http://www.basc.org.uk/en/codes-of-practice/wood####.cfm Scroll down to ''woodpigeon shooting''. Sm0kah
i would sugest going around looking for permission to shoot else where. Where pigeons are flighting and doing damage to farmers crops getting underneath there flightline where you can enjoy it instead of worrying about getting more onto the land and at the same time help the owner of the land with the problem of his crops getting damaged.....makes it worth while. They probably have been, but there is adifference between shooting pigeons that are there, and trying to encorage pigeons onto land that they don't want to be on. The reason there are no pigeons on his permission is that they are all out eating crops somewhere else!

So what do decoys do, passing pigeons on their way to another field for their feed ''The reason there are no pigeons on his permission is that they are all out eating crops somewhere else!'' And thats why they are shot, to PREVENT serious damage to crops!

Most people decoy in places, or very near to places where pigeons feed and are therefore causing damage to crops, just putting decoys down in a random field is unlikely to get you any. "And thats why they are shot, to PREVENT serious damage to crops!" And that's why the farmer up the road has people controlling numbers on his farm. I get your point and the law can be interpreted in diffrerent ways but everyone needs to be aware of the law before going shooting so they can protect themselves from future problems. Cranfield
james79, if you watch the pigeons you will find where they go to feed, or roost and thats where you need to be. It sounds very simple and it is. Don't discount grazing land, pigeons are very partial to clover.
Catweazle
So what do decoys do, passing pigeons on their way to another field for their feed you can use decoys to bring the pigeons into range, otherwise they settle somewhere else on the field to eat. A large field is impossible to walk up, you get to one end and the pigeons are feeding at the other end.
stubby
james, are there any muck heaps on this land if so, put a few decoys on it, pigeons love routing through muck for the bugs, oh and you'll be shooting them on health & safety reasons, as they are roosting above feed troughs and messing in the animal feed, thats your story anyhow I regularly shoot a livestock only permission, where the flightline passes across, but the muck piles and clover bring them down
