£8.50 a box was good on the HMR ammo. I cant buy a 1000 so had only bought 100 !

I was hoping to buy some fud decoys, a new green warm jumper and a fleece to zip into my shooting jacket , but saving pennys ! I enjoyed my my food although it is expensive but the same at avery event. Me and the mrs took a small back pack with additional food and drink !

£5 pound for a burger and a cuppa what a rip off ,

It is expensive I know, but do you know how much they charge for the 'plot' to sell the burgers?

I have a friend that does various shows with a food van. One in particular, wanted £600 A DAY! Plus they then whacked on some kind of 'Refuge/Bin' charge of £200. You need to sell a lot of burgers at £3.50 to make that back over a weekend. Also, I think the stalls inside Newark ranged from £500 upwards...again, you need to sell a hell of a lot to even recoupe the initial outlay.

Just my two pennies...

I dont think people would moan as much about the price if the food they were spending a silly amount of money for was 1/2 decent.

The stuff they sell is absolute rubbish the burgers would cost in the region of 25p each if that!! the cobs or what ever they wish to call them

about 10p. Thats a pretty big markup whatever you say the over heads are.

If they were to go for a higher spec product they would sell more. Therefore in the long run make themselves more money.

We got there at about half past nine on Sunday, I was amazed at how many people were already ladened down with their purchases. Surely it's easy to work out that ant bargains will be had in the last couple of hours, when the stall-holders are thinking about how much stock they've got to pack up.I wanted a new jacket, it was marked up at £110,after looking at it a couple of times I then tried it on and eventually got it for £65.

we went on sunday, with the wife my dad and a couple of friends.

we arrived around 9.30 am, had prebooked tickets so was waved through for the special parking, still managed to be quite a way from the place lol.

I managed to buy a pair of real tree trouser made by larksen for £50, which i didnt think was bad, and they were the only ones i could find to match my jacket, so was happy. along with little bit like bolt holders bullet pouches etc.

My mate also managed to buy a 20g fabarm at a bargain price of £700 when they retail at around 1200-1400 so he was happy.

I dont think the show was as good as last year, seemed to be less airgun stands in the airgun section than last year. There werent too many stands in the gamekeeping area. I think the way it was laid out made you think there was alot their.

I didnt see any of the Moderator companys, but i may have missed them.

You could tell money is tight this year with the recession and all that, because there wasnt the ammount of freebies being handed out like last year.

would i go again maybe

Glad I read this forum. I thought that maybe it was me getting old and grumpy. (Well I have and I am)! But that said I did not enjoy the Newark show. It was my first visit and I was really looking forward to it. Tatty clothes, overpriced guns, one or two informative stalls by the manufacturers but in the main a load of overpriced junk. I wanted to compare and purchase night vision for foxing - practically none. Ditto optics for day use. No cartridge manufacturers - Not much rifle ammo. I could go on but rant over. Anyway, one plus - I got home in time to see the England/France from Twickers - nothing wrong with that!

Well I have read the attached postings and thought I would add my thoughts.

I am sure that this years 'British Shooting and Countryman' show was the third such show at that location. I have attended all three. The first year my friend rented a pitch there and did very well. I was luck enough to be able to see both sides of the weekend as a keen shooter and as a part time sales assistant. My thoughts were, that it was a great event, well attended at a time of year that is normally pretty quiet for both sellers and country sports enthusiasts.Score 8/10

The following year my friend did not attend as the cost of a pitch doubled and he was not prepared to carry the cost. I attended as a punter and enjoyed the day as there was a reasonable selection of retailers catering for a wide spectrum of country sports.Score 8/10

This year I attended again and bought tickets in advance via 'the net'which entitled me to 'priority parking'. On arrival at 08.20 am I was directed to the 'priority parking' area. Being waved past 'non priority parking' places, which were considerably nearer to the entrances than the 'priority' spot I was directed to.

On entering the show I was dismayed as was a previous 'poster', at the lack of traders actualy selling guns.I attended the show with cash in my sweaty palms eager to buy a shotgun. But was very disapointed and surprised at the lack of choice.

As I had gone to the show with the intention to 'spend, spend spend' I carried on and walked the whole sales floors areas. I was further disapointed at the quality and choice of those items that were on sale. So much so that I ended the day without making a single purchase. For the first time in over 30 years of visiting shows and fairs.

The show was billed as 'The BIG one, Europes largest retail shooting and gun show. I am well aware of the economic situation both buyers and sellers find them selves in at the moment. But if the show was a reflection of the country sports economy. I am very afraid for the future of the country sports retailers of the UK. Score 3/10

Totally agree with every thing you say. We also bought "Priority" tickets on line and like you good self ended up further away then the pay on the day guys.

Even with the discount it still cost me over £40 to get into what was essentially an over-priced outdoor gunshop. The price of the catering had to be seen to be beleived £4.50 for a very average bacon roll.Go again? ...............not likley that is definitley the last time i'll ever pay to go into a shop.
