roadkill
Neither, it`s not obligatory. Is there something you want to either give up, or do, as an act of penitence? kebabs and pizza

Doc Holliday
Interesting to see how many think you have to be religeous to partake in Lent. I'm definately not a religeous man but 2 days in and I can say this with confidence... Looks like Samuel L. Jackson was right, the path of the righteous man IS beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Went for a non-alocoholic beverage this evening with my good mate and he was taking the **** when the barmaid butted in, whom was quite attractive to say the least, and asked what he was giving up. After staring back at her with a blank expression for several seconds she said she was giving up food for Lent. Not because she was religeous or anything but she does every year and she raises money which she donates to charities with a hunger/starvation theme. Henry, you have a valid point. It's not all about giving up something for Lent, although that is the general conception and where the religeous theme comes in to mark Christ's 40 days in the wilderness, but you could always take up something instead like going out of your way to help someone every day. I definately see it as a challenge and I think it's good to purposefully deny yourself something for a length of time and Lent offers all and sundry the opportunity to that, whether you are a chruch go-er or an atheist.
