Salop Matt
As above I was thinking of getting one of these for back garden plinking at beer cans !! But what sort of power out put do thay have at the muzzle and at 10ft ? Will the peirce tin cans or just knock them over ? and would they have enough power the break extra stong mints ? And would they spin a spinning steel target if you hit one or knock down a a knock down target at say 10 ft ? You know the general fun airgun targets etc ? Dexterboyz
the max legal power output any air pistol can be is 6ftlb! it would go through a tin maybe both sides if you used the right pellets i.e prometheus steel pellets, they say you only need 3ftlb to go into a rabbit skull! hope that answers some of our quesion
Clubshot
Most Umarex Auto & S & W Revolvers are less than 2FP - made for speed than power Likes of Crosman single Shots could be around 5FP on a Warm Day CO2 was made for warmer Countries is effected by weather / temprature BOB/R http://www.practicalpistoluk.com
gixxerboy
I used to plink with a CP88 and that would go through your standard beer/coke can at 10yds mate...
Paddy Galore!
they vary a little bit but 2-4 ftlbs is the average, i've got a little cp88 too and it's good fun plinking, found a smith&wesson umarex pistol under the bench in the local gunshop friday and was playing with that too, don't know how much it's going for tho. XdunstanX
The most I've seen from a semi-auto Co2 pistol is about 2.5, but I've seen as low as 1.5 from a brand new one. And the accuracy of them is appalling. But if you're only plinking then it'd be no problem. As said above, Crosman single shot pistols (2240) are better for vermin. I bought one recently,(Umarex) dunno about the power output, It JUST about manages to spit the pellets out the end of the barrel. in answer to second part of your question ie tin cans/targets, Probably only if you throw IT at them
Charliecloud
In answer to your questions - Yes - get a S&W 586 or 686 - 10 shots and will do all you require with ease. Or if you fancy an 'automatic' look a like a CP88 or a 1911 - 8 shot mags. Both capable of doing what you asked in your questions. Have fun
HDAV
I fancy a 586/686 for fun but would like something accurate apart from HW45 and rohm's any others too consider? Under £200 and closer to £100 the better? Edited April 8, 2011 by HDAV
Katash
After reading the comments above I think there must be something wrong with mine, it will go straight through both sides of a water filled coke can @ 10m and its pretty damn accurate, fired into a full unopened Strongbow can @ 10m and it will turn the can inside out. It will shatter CD's, break glass bottles, put a serious dent in 1mm metal sheet etc ... Imagine those thick dustman coats, made of wool with the black shiny patches on - I fired at one 5m away on a coat stand and the pellets were found inside the sleeve .... I certainly wouldn't want to get hit by one, there are plenty of videos on Youtube of them smashing glass jam-jars at reasonable ranges. Only problem I find is rapid shots cool the bottle too much and power drops off but aimed shots are fine. Accuracy wise I can repeatedly hit a coke can @ 25yrds. Oh yea, mine is the Umarex Beretta 92F (Not the cheaper Beretta Elite) and I use Bisley Pest Control pellets.
HDAV
Thinking of a Umerax 586 my self but just seent he crosman 357 £65 and said to be as good? Anyone compared the 2? Just for fun/paper punching
jackinbox99
Ive a skiff a3000, which was widely reported to be one of the most powerful legal air pistols on the websites i read reviews on at the time I bought it. It looks a bit like a glock, c02 powered. Can get 50 shots or so out of a bulb. It can certainly go through a beer can without not many problems, but its not the most accurate gun in the world. Ideal for garden plinking though. Ive never measured its power, but will do if i get some spare time. My mates got a crossman pump up pistol and have to say thats more powerful and more accurate. Have fun Interesting comments on these Umarex pistols - I have the Beretta 92F and the 1911 Colt memorial and they Chrony at 1.5 ftlbs (300fps) and 2.5 ftlbs (380 fps) respectively with Acupells. The Colt is substantially higher because I modified the hammer to give a slightly longer throw on the pin. I think they are generally so feeble because of the fact the gas transfer mechanism has to allow for the magazine clearance and consequently a lot of power leaks before even getting to the barrel. That said, they seem fairly accurate to about 15 yards and will penetrate beer cans. Perhaps I'll look at further modding the Colt to improve the power - the gas chamber is a very simple mechanism indeed...

I also have a beretta 92fs and with the red dot on the top its more than enough to take a feral down at 20yrds. Thats with a full bulb and headshot before i get called a liar. As far as accuracy goes we have competions out to 30-40yrds with it, its pinpoint drops a bit, not too much only a bit but with a firm hand almost same impact point. Even with the rifle silencer on it the power isnt knocked too much and just as accurate, only diffence is it shoots low due to the silencer weighing the barrel down
