deeksofdoom
I am considering buying a Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .223, has anybody got any views or opinions on these rifles. The reason I want the tactical is because of the heavy barrel and the barrel length is only 20 inches and it would be a little easier to carry around rather than the longer barrelled varmint versions. I'm hoping to have it threaded for a moderator aswell, so the 20 inch barrell would reduce the overall length.
Hunter_zero
I am considering buying a Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .223, has anybody got any views or opinions on these rifles. I have one in .308. Do I like it? Yup, very accurate indeed. Is it heavy, yup it's bloody heavy but the 20" barrel is great for woodland stalking and high seat work. The triggers are a massive improvement, all in all it's a very good rifle. John
deeksofdoom
The Hogue over moulded stock is supposed to be a bit flimsy and the fore end touched the barrel when using a bipod, would you notice a difference in your groups using this stock when shooting off the bipod? al4x
I've the standard barrel sps and its well worth a look at much lighter to carry and still shoots tiny groups
nickcass23
Got the 700 VLS and its deffo to heavy to carry round, go for the lighter barrel!!!!!!
Mr_Logic
I had an SPS Tactical in .223. Shouldn't have sold it, very good gun. Very accurate indeed. I replaced the trigger, but the std one is OK. No issues off a bipod. Was a bit heavy to carry all night, but a light scope (Leupold?) and a light mod (pes muzzle can?) would have sorted. Shame how you discover this too late!
deeksofdoom
I'm going to put one of these Simmons Whitetail 3.5 - 10 X 40 Classic rifle Scopes. I hope it will be enough but I doubt I'll be shooing any further than 200 yrds. I have a Harris Bipod with 27 inch extendable legs which swivels. Bowen20
I was looking for months at different rifles on YouTube reading reviews on www.snipercentral.com and when I went to the shop to have a look I didn't like the feel of the bolt handle felt cheap and the action when bolting back and forward felt rough in comparison to say the tikka which I also looked at and only £60 quid difference. Was very heavy too but that didnt bother me too much cos I ain't no fag like. So I ended up getting a .223 Howa 1500 with green hogue stock stainless steel 22" barrel varmint I think it is 1-12 twist from pigeon watch with wildcat mod and mtc viper scope. I put a bi pod on it and just lay up with my bushnell range finders and pick off bunnies and fox at night not too bad to carry round and a bonus is that it shoots half inch and under at 100 yds with 55 grain privi just trying to post a pic I'm on my iPhone . Just go and have a look and feel for the rifle and most of all compare with other rifles. ATB

If my memory serves me correctly they are parallax set at 100 yards. I had the 50mm version and whilst they are (were) and extremely competent scope (the Philippines made units) they are NOT the scope for a .223 tactical! If you want to play at snipers, laying down all night and waiting, then fine, if you plan a bit of walking around some land forget it, get a lighter barrel! ATB! Mr_Logic
With a light mod and light scope they aren't too bad!!
cooter
I have a standard .223 Remmy, and a Howa 1500 in .308. I prefer the Howa, I had to do nothing to it to make it shoot straight. The remmy had a repacement trigger, as the standard unit comes set to 4lbs, and got to the edge of unreliable when set down to my preferred weight, and the stock was nice to hold but flexed in warm weather.
