Dead-Eyed Duck
topman As high as you can in clear view. Face into the wind, as normal pigeons do. Always combine with some on the ground - leave a gap in the pattern on the ground where they will land - this will be the kill zone. Cranfield
Put them where you see the pigeons sit, that may seem obvious, but its true. I often put lofters in hedgerows barely 5ft off the ground on some fields I shoot. Pulls the pigeons better than a rotary, especially when the are silhouetted on open fields. 30-6
I seldom use lofters now but have with good results in the past, especially with crows. Tips I would give is (1) put them in range of gun, but not directly over or close to the hide, (2) mine are 6x5 foot 30 foot in total and if I am using all pieces in a strong wind they can be hard to put up, if they get caught in the wind and decide to topple leave them go otherwise you can bend the poles or wrench your wrist (speaking from experience). henry d
And remember to put the lofters up 1st,because if the pole falls and you`ve got your deeks out :*)
scolopax
I use a 10 metre carbon fibre roach pole. Very light and you can put half a dozen decoys up in no time. Getting them down can be a bit tricky but I've never left one in a tree yet. Be very careful of electricty wires!!!!!
