Lee 1991
When going out to shoot pigeons with my air rifle what would you say is most effective and accurate way of shooting them? If you have any tips could you please leave them thank you Lee
Chezney
In the head. thats the best way. But well placed shots in other parts of the anatomy will get the results (chest/breast cavity will kill every time if hit just below the gullet, at the top of the breast) But make sure you have the accuracy before you shoot stuff because a clean and accurate kill is the only really acceptable kill. Ferret Master
Hi, Lee 1991, fill your profile in because some people on the forum are shy and don't reply to people who live in the land of 'not given'. the lizard
Hi Lee, You can't always get a head-shot (and they do bob about a lot). My favoured shot is in the back, above where the wings meet and the closer to the neck the better. Drops 'em every time. Good Luck. the Lizard

Lord Geordie
I go for head shots if i can as i find if shot through the chest the **** from the intestines taints the breast and it's the only part i bother eating. LG
SNAKEBITE
But well placed shots in other parts of the anatomy will get the results (chest/breast cavity will kill every time if hit just below the gullet, at the top of the breast) I'd be careful giving that advice. Too much margin for error, especially on a wood pigeon. Just my opinion.
Chezney
Just as much margin for error aiming at the head if you know the anatomy well. the fact is the cavity at the lower neck contains the Aorta, Trachea and pulomary artery. If either of these are damaged it will result in a sudden death. So i dont think that if you know where to shoot it in the chest there is any more margin for error than in the head, as it is roughly the same size.
