cant hit rabbits 123
Hi guys, I've been looking around for a good 410 for short range squirels and bunny busting. Two have caught my eye, one being a 3 shot bolt action and the other being a single shot bolt action, but with a large supressor and open rifle type sights. Does any one have any opinion on either type of gun? Many thanks in advance.
HDAV
Makes will help as reliability can be an issue depends if you need more than one shot and if you need a moderator or not have a search been discussed quite often
cant hit rabbits 123
Also while its on my mind, I've contacted the police about a matter but they still haven't got back to me. Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts or advice. Unfortunately, I've filled up my cabinet but still find myself in need of this one last (for now) gun. I was wondering if I could remove the bolt when not in use, hence the need for a bolt action, and keep that locked in the cabinet, and hide the rest else where. This would eliminate the need for another cabinet that will end up costing about twice as much as the gun. Would this be acceptable to the police for a single, small bore shotgun seen as it is rendered useless without the bolt? Many thanks. cant hit rabbits 123
The three shot is a stevens, and the single is a bretton and gaucher G12.
HDAV
Get a second or bigger cabinet, my choice you be a moss berg pump with business barrel but not cheap, bretton has had some good reviews not sure about Stevens ( American?)
sitsinhedges
The three shot is a stevens, and the single is a bretton and gaucher G12. It is my understanding that the Bretton gaucher is true cylinder and so has very short range, made for shooting slugs in france.
stubby
I have a 3 shot bolt action full hushpower, cant remember the make offhand, and dont think the missus would be too happy me unlocking the cabinet at this time in morning, I wont say, great little gun, as the hushpower makes it a great long gun, but it does what it was bought for, silent shooting, and yes, perfectly legal to dismantle gun, keep bolt in cabinet, rest under bed, run a padlock through the trigger gaurd (mines stored in cabinet)

Got one myself for sorting out the squizzers on my lawn (missus was getting annoyed with the craters the 12 bore was making ) I bought it in standard form and bought a .410 moderator that screws onto the muzzle. Cant fault the 'Norrie'-you'll be able to pick them up from around £120. Using the sub cartridges they are nice and quiet too!
foxbuster
O yeah, and they're full choked too.
Tonic
If by 'full cabinet' you mean it is called a '5 gun' and you have 5 in it (or 3-gun with 3 in etc) then give your FEO a call and ask if he minds you squeezing another in. I've got room for 7 but allowed to keep 10 on the condition that they fit in.

vampire
You will be hard pressed to beat a nice 3 shot pump action for the rabbits
ajm1979
Ive got a baikal 410 with full moderator, its excellent on rabbits up to 30-35 yards and quiet. Only downside to it is that its single shot.
cant hit rabbits 123
Thanks for your replies guys. They have been very useful. The stevens is American, I believe. I have a mossberg 600 pump action (new haven model) in 12 bore with a 26" barrel and i think this would be very good for rabbits, but wanted something with less kick, bang and (considerable) force on the recieving end so it could be used for closer range stuff and garden work. I thought a .410 would be great for this. I didn't know you could get screw on suppressors for 3 shot guns, and I think I shall now have a look for one similar, so many thanks. Google 'saddlery and gunroom' mate. They can supply your local dealer with the screw on mod. They come supplied with a boss which you machine on a lathe to suit your muzzle bore. Think i paid around £50 for mine, have access to a lathe so was able to do the boss myself-but should only cost about £15 for your gunsmith to do it for you. Dont think they'll work with anything less than full choked barrels though for obvious reasons!
cant hit rabbits 123
Excellent advice. Thank you very much. I too have access to a lathe so an expense saved there!
