After looking at the two different exploded diagrams i found on google ( i don't own the make of gun)and comparing them to your pics..... i think the ring looks like it should be fitted on the piston... the parts diagrams don't show a seperate ring other than the O ring.

I've looked at youtube vids, and they just mention cleaning the cylinder and checking gas holes... no mention of seperate ring .

Someone who owns one must know if that's the case... but to me it looks like it's come off the piston assembly, where it should sit and be free to rotate.

Wish i could help more..........

That looks nothing like the internals from my Hatsan  . The gas piston on mine(3yrs old ish)is longer and has a coil spring near the base. the gas cylinder under the barrel has no ridge or rings on the inside. Could this be a very early one? Wonder if, because of the problems, they quietly changed the design. Could explain the awful reputation they have which does not seem to be born out in my experience.

hey poorpeet that is really interesting maybe I just need to get a new piston? or maybe its a 20 bore thing? I reckon that a new piston might fit the existing chamber without the ring? Dunno but that was perhaps why nobody Knew what I was talking about?

Looking at the pics of your hatsan it looks like the ring that keeps dislodging has either stretched or buckled so that it has dislodged from the recess on the spring collar. The small rubber ring should be placed on the top of the ammo tube after the spring collar and before the barrel gas port ring is placed over the tube. Try assembling it as I have stated but first force the collar into place in the recess (it should not be loose) and see how you get on. Ensure that the rubber ring goes on the ammo tube after the spring collar though or it wont work. Let me know how you get on.

Hi Blunderbuss thanks for your help :good: I have assembled the gun several times and no joy :look: The diameter on the piston (is this what you call the spring collar?) is 25.5mm and the diameter on the internal face of the ring is 25.92. So its pretty loose on the piston, its external diameter is 30.53mm and the gas port on the barrel is 30.59mm so it will push fit into that but it will not stay in place. does this make any sense? Im wondering if the grove at the end of the piston is for a retaining clip to hold the ring on the piston?

Problem with Hatsans is that they've changed the internals a few times and as the newer models come along they stop producing spares for the older versions which means you're stuffed if it breaks down. I bought a new magazine tube and it was 1mm fatter than the old one I owned. I recut and threaded it to fit the reciever but then the gas piston wouldn't fit over it either so I was stumped :/
