Totally depends on what he plan's to Shoot with it

As often state Check out Air Gun Clubs

As often have Members Sellng on Starter Gun's as they move up the Chain

Was in Pax the other day and noticed someone looking @ SMK .177 Rifle with

Plastic Stock around £80.00 - Made for Youngsters

You get what you pay for - a lot depends on if you think they will stay in the sport

Remember James Huckle coming to Lea Valley as a 14 years old - with his Dad's old springer

Came Second in a HFT Rifle Competition - Dad brought him a precharged

And Won or was Second there after

After leaving School joined UK Team and now winning World and European Championships

Depends a lot on his age/stature.If he is over 12 and of a reasonable size then I doubt that you will beat a used Air Arms S200-it will not be cheap but you get what you pay for and,if he looks after it,then you will lose very little money on it.How old is he and what kind of build?

A Bruno says the main thing is his age and size.

If you want to go pre charge the the s200 and BSA ultra are good.

If you want to go spring SMK are good for learning to shoot but make sure its full power for hunting. MY daughter is learning with a SMK synxs. Great gun, but not powerfull enough for hunting, about 7 ft/lbs.

qb78 should really be full power, maybe it just felt low power as no recoil!! They are great guns, but the co2 can make regular use more costly.

I think its good for someone to learn on a apringer so they undertand recoil etc.

Meteors are great guns for learning on, though if used on Rabbits be aware of the lower power lvl.
