M ROBSON
I was out early this morning for a stalk on some ground I knew a few bucks have been over the winter. Shot the first at 150 yards, he was in a grass field with 3 Does. A nice fully cleaned buck. I'd just finished the Gralloch and was dragging him to the gate when a Doe jumped out of the hedge 30 yards in front of me, she saw me and ran off through the broom bushes. I headed further down for a look and there was 2 Does and 2 Bucks out in the field. Shot this one at 200 yards across a grass field. A great start to the buck season! Cheers, Mark. Frank
Good shooting mate What rifle/calibre were you using?? As far as i know Kip, he uses a CZ 550 .22-250. Unless he has changed or got another rifle for the purpose. Edited April 1, 2006 by Frank

Frank
a very underestimated Deer round. Cheers, Mark. Yes, i have seen this round being used on even fallow here, DEADLY!! By the way, the .22-250 is the minimum caliber we can use over here for all our deer speices at present. Which include, Fallow, red and Sika. Frank
Frank, is the .22-250 the minimum because of the bullet speed?? With what weight bullet?? Hi Kip, the minimum bullet weight that is allowed over here is 55 grain soft point, out of a .22-250, using factory ammo only, as reloading is not allowed as yet, but hopefully will be soon. No hollow points or ballistic tips. Hope that helps Kip. Edited April 1, 2006 by Frank
kip270
Cheers Frank, All these different laws relating to deer is weird, as long as you put the bullet in the right place it will do the job intended. We are waiting to hear about the change in close season's

ferretmanabu
Great shooting Mark. You're a lucky guy with all that deer shooting available. Do you have to pay for the shooting rights or do you just have permission to shoot over the land?
M ROBSON
Ferretmanabu, On the majority of the ground we shoot the farmers will take a bit of Venison as payment or don't want anything at all, a lot of them just see Deer as vermin. We have some farms where the farmer will look for a small payment for each stalk and also for every carcase. And there are a couple who like to see the Deer about and won't let us shoot them. Cheers, Mark.

bullet tooth tony
Its good to see someone had a better do than me. I went out for an afternoon stalk, seen a doe laying down on the edge of a wood. So I stalked her until I was 100 yards off and sat and waited for the buck to appear. He didn't and she slowly wonderd off. So I carried on stalking down the edge of the wood, I came face to face with the biggest roe buck I have ever seen, it had a set of handle bars like you have never seen and a set of bo###cks to match. I lent on a tree with my 270 [and silencer] and watched him for about 5 mins at about 45 yards. My time had come and so had his. I went for the head shot and BANG I missed don't know how but I did, he just walked off I still had a great time [got the old ticker going]
