Do you shoot from a wheelchair?

Recommended Posts

I have built a hide that I am hoping is ideal for shooters :shoot::shoot::shoot: in wheelchairs.

I am based just outside Hitchin,Herts and I am looking for people to test run the hide and let me know what their thoughts are on it :hmm::hmm::hmm: .

If you fancy giving it a try please PM me and we can start the ball rolling :good: .

If you want to see pictures they can be found in "Off Topic" Hide for wheel chair users  , forgive me but I am not very good at uploading pictures and it would have taken me all night :blush: , also apologies if any of the terminology is in correct, no offence intended, and hopefully none taken.

:thanks:

Terry

Not all wheel chairs are all shinney and silver you may find most modern wheel chairs have hard plastic wheels or light weight alloy which is also black some off us like the more stylish look and they do not rust in the field whilst raining.

Nice to here that some one is thinking about the disabled shooting community Nice one Terry would love to take you up on a day out and try your hide out but can not drive that far.

If you can get a fellow shooter to come down with you, I will set them up on another spot, no need to bring any equipment unless you want to.

Look forward to hearing from you

Nice to see some one making a big effort to help others. If you don't mind my I make a hopefully a useful comment.

What size (width) are the paving slabs (can't tell from the photos), as what I was thinking the ones that lead out of the hide may be to narrow and run beween the wheelchair wheels instead of the wheelchair running on top of the slabs to get into the hide. Although making the path wider will make it harder to hide it if you needed to hide the path when shooting.

Good spot.

The slabs have now been paired up so plenty wide enough, and more to follow.

I used the hide today, no decoys,no netting, why? :hmm: .

It was too windy today and was blowing the pole's down on the hide I was going to use up against a hedgerow, near to where Cosd shot 127 on Saturday, having tried 3 differing locations I packed everything away and was going to go home (sulking) but I decided to sit in the New Hide and see what was what, I discovered the netting would need more support to stop it billowing so I took it down  , I could not be bothered to set out a pattern again, (still sulking) , when a pigeon flew over :good: ! So I get the gun out and just sit there, expecting nothing to happen, when the birds started to appear :good:

Later with 30 birds down :shoot::shoot: and many more missed :blush: , I wish I had been bothered to set out a pattern  . The birds jinked away naturally as I had no cover :oops: , but it confirmed it is the right place to position a hide :good: .

I finished the day by fitting wire mesh around the hide as this will absorb and prevent the netting billowing, (Cos also suggested this addition, 2 minds and 1 thought) I will now have to try it when I am in a better mood, and with everything in place, but I will admit to being pleased with the end result :yahoo::yes: .

Oh and by the way 2 of the pigeons actually came down into the hide (or the bones of it)

Excellent Terry, not a bad result at all.

The wheelchair hide is in an excellent position with good views of the land below.

Here's another idea for you, why not permanently fix some tarpaulin around the hide, you can also add netting on the day of a shoot, the idea being that the tarpaulin will cut out any wind keeping the wheelchair person warm on windy days like today

It may be better to fit the tarpualin on the day, as it will get a battering the rest of the time, but it is and excellent idea :good: , if I get a chance I will try it tomorrow or Thursday.

Are you around on Saturday for a shoot? I might need some company in the afternoon 11/1200 ish  .

If Cos can't do it are there any other takers :shoot: .

I can possibly make Friday if you can, but can't do the weekend I'm afraid as the wife has me booked up.

We'll do it another week.

I have loads of holiday days I can take so if you fancy a midweek give me a day or so notice, or we'll catch up another weekend.

Will do :good: , maybe we can another permission, don't want you killing all the birds on the first one do we :lol:

To date I have not had any takers for the "Wheel Chair accessible hide" which is disappointing.

Since it's construction I have used it twice and have had in excess of 50 pigeons.

It will still be used for pigeon shooting, and awaits it's first Special Visitor
