Mightymariner
Had two days out this week with slow and steady trade. First on some peas I managed nine, where the birds were committed and had been eating away at the edges of the field. Would have been more if I hadn't wasted the morning on another pea field. Second day on some spring rape I have shot before. The pigeons were still on it, but I only managed 7, despite putting a rope banger on the far part of the field, and my rotary with plastic bags on the ends to act as a bird scarer. The rope banger worked OK, in that it put the birds off the field, but they flew around and went back down to the nearby trees and simply fed in between bangs. Will try again next week, but in different spot to hopefully catch them unawares. Gotta keep on trying!

Cranfield
Well done for trying, it is that slower time of year. I had a typical afternoon on some freshly drilled peas yesterday and shot 6 pigeons and 16 asstd corvids. There wasn't a spare pea laying on the field anywhere, but what birds were about decoyed well. Like most of my fields, it was very exposed and there was a fair wind blowing that made some of the shots/misses "interesting".
Mightymariner
I find my shooting suffers when the birds are sparse, as the longer between shots leaves you too much time to curse that last miss. When it is busy you can soon get back on track. The farmer with the rape is happy I am going as they keep at the rape as it is just the right height at the moment. I lost one bird to bluebottles in the space it took me to pack up and fetch my vehicle, it was completely infested.

Mightymariner
Well, a better day. Same field, different location. Shame I had to leave at 2pm as they were still coming in well. Dropped 20 with a couple lost in the long grass!!

Harwoodandy
Peas have flowered and are starting to pod round me When's the best time to shoot over peas - was out a couple of weeks back when they weren't in flower and had a modest bag for a few hours, i seem to recollect being told that it's best when they are in flower?
