Mehter
Has anyone ever used cartridges from Holland & Holland, Purdy or William Evans? As I work in Central London it's convenient to get cartridges from them. Their prices are only a couple of quid more than any other regular brand but wanted to find out if they're any good (I don't see why not) & if the extra money is because of their name & location. http://www.hollandandholland.com/pdfs/cartridgesprices.pdf http://www.williamevans.com/London_Cartridges~g~19.htm http://www.purdey.com/services/cartridges/
al4x
yeah only a couple of quid a box more They will work fine so go for it but you could knock £100 a thousand or so off buying elsewhere
Guest cookoff013
they`d just be re-branded normal cartridges. they aint not no difference gov`ner. most are for 2.5" cartridges for game guns, fibre wads too. i`ve used hull three crowns, and can say its a great load. they look similar to some custom loads dont they? Gordon R
Why would anyone want to use their shells apart from snobbery. They will not load their own, but will have a someone make them for them. Convenience?? Only a few pounds a box extra????? Get a life.
guest1957
I've used the Holland and Holland 32g No.5 There is not denying they did the job very well; according to the box they are made by Hull Cartridge Co. If you only need a couple of boxes and are in the area, £7 a box really isn't the end of the world and once you factor in making a special trip somewhere else the total cost will be very similar. sitsinhedges
The only time I have had a cartridge leave the wad in a barrel it was a H&H 20g. We stood there and watched this bizarre spectacle of actually seeing the lump of lead leave the barrel then a blockage a few inches down where the wad had stopped. Came to the conclusion there weren't any powder in that one and it was just the primer pushing it out. mpk
Would it still not work it cheaper to order from just carts
Mark-70
I thought Just Cartridges were expensive, my local dealer sells Gamebore Black Gold cheaper and obviously without the delivery charge! I agree with Cookoff013 about Hull Three Crowns, I've used these and found them great. Shooting Eley Hi-Flyers at the moment and really impressed. I do pay more for competition cartridges but wouldn't pay more just for the name on the box!
mpk
Sorry I meant cheaper that the prices on the list shown may not be though
Mark-70
Yea that's what I was going from..... Do you mean the prices differ from the price list on the website then? Say if you called them do you get a better deal? Or have I got the wrong end of the stick.
mpk
At the top of the post the links on the op first post state around £300 for 1000 I thought you may be able to get a cartridge that is similar from just carts for a better price
Flashman
Whilst it may be convenient to stroll along to Mount Street to purchase one's shooting miscellany after luncheon, one still have to carry the cartridges home. The flaw in the plan will become apparent ten minutes or so into the tube/bus trip, when the slab of 30gm of no. 5 shot starts weighing heavily. Unless you live nearby, in which case have your driver pick them up for you in the Rolls during the day...

Kes
i bought 250 william evans on a recent trip - carts ok, nothing exceptional, nothing problematic, but as Flashman says carrying them was an absolute pain - now short of 3 fingers as a result of blood loss. Wonderful though to feel paper carts again and smell them once fired - but then I'm sad. Buy some try it, worth the carrying pain. As good as my normal carts - eley vip.
