scolopax
Jackdaws nest, the trunk will have split exposing the nest, is there a large branch lying on the ground nearby ?
Woodcock Magnet
Jackdaws nest, the trunk will have split exposing the nest, is there a large branch lying on the ground nearby ? I agree mate, no branch's near by, but farmer could have cleared them away. who's to say what happened here!!!
highseas
A pagan fire-phallus? If you go back tomorrow and it's gone, it was burst into flames to celebrate the solstice. Shame, you missed the naked women having tree-sex! My phallus always burns at the tip too! just think of the splinters
Birx
Jackdaws nest, the trunk will have split exposing the nest, is there a large branch lying on the ground nearby ? I'd say the wound is much older than the nest. The reactional growth you can see at the edges will have taken many years to form (that's not to say the nest hasn't taken many years to build). I agree it's probably a Jackdaw though. I'm a tree surgeon and come across quite a few of these, none quite as impressive as this though! les gedge
I was hunting up a hedge line after bunnies and came across this tree, what do you think it is I would be most interested in your views! jackdaw, maybe squirrel has used it as well. About 2 years ago, we poked 1 and got 3 squirrels out - nest not as big as this 1 tho.
