weimaraner
Hi i am just wondering why you have to use 24gm cartridges for Olympic trap ?
paulos
Because it is governed by ISSF and that's their rule
VicW
Some years ago now the governing body decided that a reduction to 24gm loads would be brought in to reduce the recoil effect on the shooters. In the same way the CPSA,many years ago, reduced the load for their disciplines to 28gm from 32gm. One school of thought feels that that should be reduced still further to 24gm. In all cases scores have not suffered as a result of the lighter loads. Vic.
clayman
ISSF rules are compulsory 24g, but consider that your scores may improve even where domestic disciplnes all 28g if you convert to 24g for everything. Fatigue and recoil anticipation from heavier loads can seriously effect performance, and many shooters, including myself, have found that lighter loads allow more concentration on putting the pattern where its effective. I converted 10 yrs ago when I noted my practice scores with light loads were better averages than my 28g competition scores - and I shoot everything 21g or 24g now. enumber
I've just finished my first 1000 cartridges (Hull X-comp 28gm fibre) having got my licence in June. Going to try the X-comp 21grm now as heard good things on here about them. Plus there a little cheaper. I'll let you know how I get on with them in comparison. coyotemaster
I have been shooting 24grm. loads for a long time and love them. I have recently dropped the charge weight a little more to 350 grains--yield 500 rnds per bag of shot. The load is running at 1280fps and kills well through a 1/2 choke out to 45yds and a little past. This is with Hard 7 1/2s.
