andrewluke
you will get charged about £15,anything over the value of £36 even a gift is liable for tax, customs will even tax you on the postage charge, you may get lucky and not have to pay anything. andrew. il cacciatore
I got a pair of ten pin bowling shoes sent over from America basically because you cannot buy them here from anyone. I had to pay $110 + p&p for the shoes and about £40 pounds in import TAX. Its complete blackmail. :< Edited April 12, 2006 by il cacciatore

Lord Geordie
I must have been VERY lucky then as i have had numerous things shipped from the US and from Hong kong etc and NEVER had to pay tax LG
AndyCM
I had a zeiss scope across from the US a while ago & had import tax added (7% I think). Vat on the whole lot + the courier charged £10 for acting as tax collector, which was nice of them But I recently got a Night Ops Gladius torch & Buck knife (about £140 worth) from the US and nothing to pay at this end. Cheers AndyCM
the lizard
I must have been VERY lucky then as i have had numerous things shipped from the US and from Hong kong etc and NEVER had to pay tax LG Hi Patsmash, You MAY be lucky - like LG. Especially if it is only one SINGLE item. If you try to order 10 or a dozen of anything, you will definitely get stung for Import Duty, which is usually the same as VAT. Plus the Courier or Postal Service will then add on a surcharge. Hope you're lucky..... Let us know how you get on. the Lizard
Highlander
C***** you lot moanin’ again Firstly you wanna buy stuff direct from the States or some such place ‘cause it’s so much cheaper (more about that in a mo) then you moan about paying duty etc. It’s a lottery, sometimes stuff gets by without being taxed and sometimes it doesn’t. Pay your money and take your choice. Now… #1) It’s illegal for a business to export & purport something to be a gift when it’s clearly a business transaction. They can get heavily fined for it. Try ‘samples of no commercial value’. It’s more likely to get by if sent via normal post rather than couriers. Takes longer but hey you can’t have everything. #2) Not everything from the States is cheaper than here and even when it is the delivery costs can often outweigh any savings. #3) The main (not the only) reason so much is cheaper over there is the vast home market i.e. 260 million consumers as opposed to what 60 million here. Bulk buying saves bulk bucks. UK taxes and overheads account for much of the difference but then we’ve gotta support all our incoming friends haven’t we #4 The amount of tax you might have to pay varies by product. If you want a definitive answer ring HMCE and they’ll give you the product code and amount. #5 Courier companies are quite within their rights to make a charge (not excessive ones) to collect the taxes/duties. Now do the right thing and BUY BRITISH Mr B Liar would be very grateful
