rec-baller
which is the best bottle to use ?? a 232 or a 300 bar refill bottle, i have been given a 10.5 ltr 232 bar bottle that is out of test, different people tell me i need a 300 bar bottle, i will only be refilling my air rifle bottle about six times a year as i usually use my HMR but have just got some feilds that will only be able to use an air rifle on , am i wasting my time having the bottle tested--should i buy a 300 bar bottle??? shaun
TaxiDriver
You wont get a dive centre to refill an out of date cylinder. my local dive place quoted £55 to test and fill a 12litre cylinder (assuming it passed)
-Mongrel-
To answer your question, a 300 bar bottle is better only because you get more refills out of it for your money. A 232 will do the job perfectly adequately especially if you are only going to use it occasionaly. As for testing, be aware that it could cost more. If it needs shot blasting that's additional, I had one done recently that cost £75 including air fill. You need to weigh up how many fills you want to get out of it , against the difference in cost of testing this one or buying new. Also bear in mind it could fail... ...not that I have ever had one fail and I'm a scuba diver as well!
Diceman
http://airgun-hq.co.uk/airgunhq/Tools/Calculators/tabid/54/Default.aspx 32 fills of my 410 from 150 to 200bar according to that. So you might get 5 years shooting out of one fill, just in time for the next retest!
Gnome of the Woods
300bar will give you approx double the number of fills for the same size bottle over 232bar. You should fill to 170 and refill at 100 to get the best results from bottle and rifle ;-)

I find my S400 remains accurate down to 120 and is good down to 110. My 10 litre 207 bar gives me 178 fills from 190 down to 120...apparently. yankeedoodlepigeon
I got a 232 12ltr bottle I max it out on my Theoben and get over 20 fills out of it before I take it back for refill £3. £27 for test and fill. I'm not sure if I should put that much in to the buddy bottle I don't think I would max it with a 300 but it differs between different shops as I asked all the shops I visit and got different answers from all. Dekers
If you are running a 12ft lb air rifle and using it averagely (whatever that may be) then your 232 bottle will be fine. Remember, the bottle will always have a value if you want to sell it on, Test prices do seem to fluctuate a lot just the same! I have a 12L 232 bottle and run my Falcon FAC at 26ft lb, the Dive bottle gets charged (topped up) about once a year, I use it a fair bit. I don't always, they were just the numbers I plugged into the programme to try it out. I generally fill to 200 when I'm going out, just to max the potential shots and give me a few sighters beforehand until it settles, usually at about 190 I find. Rarely get down to 120 though, unless the rats are swarming.
snipper
300bar is better but stick with what you have .......... it was free but as its out of test it will need a hydrastatic test which varies alot in price depending where you take it
