Mightymariner
Did some reccying with my 8 year old today, let him drive across the fields to keep him happy and planned a day on some rape stubble tomorrow and on Sunday he said he would rather come decoying on some barley stubble than go to a theme park! Result. Will keep the session short in the afternoon so hopefully there will be plenty of birds coming in to keep him interested. Happy days! Cranfield
Thats a result, now you have to build up his strength so he can carry all the gear and teaching him to retrieve would be very useful.

That would be good, got him booked on a BASC young shots course in Sept so I reckon that might spark him more than hours in a hide!
Mightymariner
Well, what a weekend! Saturday we shot 14 on the rape stubble, had to leave early so a bit disappointed. Today, took son to some barley stubble, didn't go till 2pm as the weather was hot. Excited little fella set out the decoys for me, got his seat just right and we had barely sat down and the first came in....dropped abut six in a row, which he was delighted with. The afternoon continued with plenty of birds coming so no one got bored. We didn't bother with the rotary as the pigeons were decoying so well, right in to the space in front of us. Almost every shot we had resulted in a couple more coming in. Three left and rights helped increase the bag. I told Max I was sure we would beat my record of 42, when we picked up, there was 41 and a rook! At 7pm I said we should probably pack up but he pleaded to stay, so we we stayed till 7.45pm when the woodies packed up. Fab couple of days make it all worthwhile, and one 8 year old who will sleep well tonight.
Dr D
what a superb read. I have 1 year old myself can't wait until I have a day like that!
fuzzypigeon
My little girl is 2 and every time I go she cries and says, me come too daddy. It melts me I keep telling her when she is older she can come and now when she sees any pigeons when I'm with her she shouts daddy pigeon shoot shoot. I can't wait for days like the one you have described above
Mightymariner
It is priceless. It has taken me a while to get to this stage, but he has been telling everyone about the day since! He has a little camo hat, waistcoat and trousers bought off a market stall too, so he looks the part. I really want him to get in to it, just as I did when my dad took my beating at his age. Dangerous Brian
Sounds like pure magic to me- father and son in a hide having a great day. Well done! Just waiting for my Daughter to grow up enough to handle the .410. If she sees any pigeons flying past at the moment she makes a little gun out of her hand and shouts bang at them. Can't wait to take her out for an afternoon after the pigeons. Not sure about her dayglo pink ear defenders though.
