Colc08
Hi all, Am looking at getting a new battery for my rotary/magnet but don't know a great deal about Amps and such things so was hoping some of you kind folks could point me in the right direction. Have been looking at one on Ebay and seems OK but not sure. Its a 12v motorcycle sized battery aparently specifically for pigeon magnets. It 7.2AH ?? is this good? They claim in the listing that it runs up to 12 hours! I spoke to someone and I'm sure they said I want something with at least 30 Amp. I may be wrong but I'm sure thats what he said. Anyway I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post a link here or not but i'll try to link the one I was thinking about getting from Ebay for around £20 inc. postage (which I thought wasn't bad) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170487410844&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT ( sorry Eds if I'm not allowed to post links ) Thanks Guys Colin

semiautolee
all you need is 2 12v 7 amp batterys For a magnet, Carry one, leave one in the car. When or if the first battery starts to decay, return it to the car, taking with you some shot birds, return with new battery and extra cartridges hope this helps send webber a pm on here Edited August 10, 2011 by semiautolee

Cosd
The motor on your magnet draws a certain amount of amps per hour, I think Magnets draw around 2amps per hour on average if I'm not mistaken but could be corrected. So if you have a motor which draws 2amps per hour and you have a 7amp battery, a simple sum of 7 divided by 2 would give you aproximately 3.5 hrs running time. Bearing in mind if you have a speed controller and don't run the magnet at full speed it will draw less current, so I use a 15amp battery and it lasts over 8 hrs. Obviously the bigger the amps on the battery the larger and heavier the battery, so take that into account when choosing one. I did have a load of some excellent Panasonic second hand ones but am out of them now, so Webber is your man. Hope this helps a little. motty
I have two 20ah batteries. These last all day without the need for speed controllers. I wouldn't buy anything less than a 17/18ah battery for running a magnet.
