Hi Jellyben,

Lots of good guns for sale for that price second hand and new but try before you buy if you are with a club get the best fit. This will save you £££ Imyself prefer Brownings or Berretta both good guns for that kind of money you should get a good one but once again try different makes :P to see what suits you.

and welcome to the furum I am pritty new here but have found lots of experienced people here worth reading the post.

go through the rack at a gunshop

what feels right is what you want

remember you don't have to buy it

refine your search from there price / make ect

my advice would be go for a sporter model

as these are great all rounders

peoples preferences vary due to size, build diciplines they shoot

personally for a starter gun i would reccomend a winchester as they are an easy

gun to get along in my experience

this topic can be a mine field as we all have diffrent idears of whats right and wrong

i personally don't like berretta o/u as they just don't feel right for me. that not that there a bag gun not the right gun for me. they also seam to be in more for minor niggles. nothing major though.

berretta do make good semi's, but they don't really fit right on me again , the escort are really nice but, have a very short stock on them. i'm looking to see if the lenghen the stock( sposed to be) then i'l get one.

the browning A5 although old also seams to be a very good semi, speek to LG i'm sure he has one for sale.

best thing is to go to the gun shop don't look at the makes and see which fits you the best. then look at the brand.

value for money you do get a much higher quallity gun for less money with secondhand

It's nothing to do with fad or fashion and everything to do with gun fit.

As suggested get into a decent gun shop and try a load out, if you are lucky the owner will know what he is on about (hence only go to a decent shop) and he can advise what come up best on you, if it is not clear from your end.

When I bought my first shotgun from London Guns, it was down to a secondhand Miroku or a new 686 and the Beretta just fitted me better - that was confirmed by the shop owner who has shot a very high level for many years, so good enough to advise for me :P

:P There is nothing wrong with any of the above advice, try plenty of guns but if you want one allrounder buy a sporter, it won't look out of place on game, clays or wildfowl. I have had berettas for the last 15years and have yet to have a problem with any of them! I find them easy to take the ejectors out to clean. The forend takes off with two screws so you can clean /dry all round the metal and the same goes for the stock, just pop out the stock bolt and you can clean all the gun action and not muck up the wood. No hesitation in recommending them!

Regards, flytie

Non send your £500 to me and I will spend it wisely on myself to stop you worrying about (did you make the right choice)

I will send a single barrel baikal in return for the £500

Find a Gun that looks good to you

In your price range

Fits well

30" to 32" barrels

in good nick

Let the spending commense :P

Don't be tempted to buy a SEMI just yet as a some clubs won't entertain them. They are frowned upon in some clubs and it's rather rude to be smacked in the face with an ejected 12g shell :P
