humperdingle
eBay is a good place to start, mate. Just search for items closest yo your post code. BTW, it's spelt "JIMNY", not "JIMNEY"... Just so you get more return on searches.

Boromir
Why aint the government sorting this out? £2300 for insurance I thought my first year of driving at the age of 21 was bad at £800 for a Kia Pride. They should encourage young drivers to to be law abiding and take up insurance and tax etc. Wonder why there is 2 million uninsured drivers in the country. TJ91
i am a young driver and the frontera was cheaper for me to insure than the jimny when i was looking at buying a 4x4 vitara was also abit cheaper if you stick some mud tyres on it there is a few specialist 4x4 insurers who do some very good deals dont just look at the engine size when thinking about insurance my ex lasses 1.2 clio was more expensive for me to insure than my fiesta 1.6si

I was also very surprised when I was told by my insurance company that a (same spec, year, etc) Jimny soft top was CHEAPER to insure than a standard hard top version

ferguson_tom
I have details of a good little vitara for sale near north london if your interested.
Bleeh
I've got a Vit, and it's alright, it's very heavy on fuel (28mpg! where the hell does it go!) and the soft-top is falling apart. I've not had any real issues after 8,000 miles but the true test will be shown when it's MOT comes up in a month. I've taken it off road several times and it works fine, It's main issue is ground clearance, so if you could get it raised between 2''-4'' (Kits are expensive, though) I think you'd be onto a winner. ferguson_tom
The car is my brothers and I know he was looking at selling it but not sure how much, will be less than 1500. As for the MPG they are thirsty for a little car.
humperdingle
As for the MPG they are thirsty for a little car. They are indeed. 32 mpg on a good day. Mind you, at 65-70mph, the rev counter sits at 4,000

secretagentmole
Look muppet, who are you insuring it with? Try Standard Term over at Huntingdon, the wife has a Vitara insured with them, second car so zero no claims discount, £230.55! They only insure 4x4 vehicles. OK the Vitara we insured is at £750 value, but, here is the big but, it is comprehensive insurance and they know what we do with it! Jimny shimny! ferguson_tom
Not such a muppet when you look at his age only 17 (going on your signature) I am sure you heard on the news about the insurance premiums for young drivers. My brother is 18 with a years driving experience on a 1.2 fiesta worth about £700 and he has just forked out £1500 on insurance, so 17 with no years NCD and trying to insure a high insurance group car its going to be expensive. The vitara are about the same insurance group as my Mazda with 140BHP (over double the bhp)
secretagentmole
Try insuring with a specialist 4x4 insurer then. The people at sureterm only insure 4x4 off roaders, so they get a stinking good deal! Really, they were over £500 cheaper than any of the other quotes we had! Salop Matt
Nothing wrong with a Jimny, Ours is great and does everythig I ask of it. On friday me and the mrs went to the cinema with her brother and his girlfriend. We went in our Jimny and and he went in his C reg V8 Lanndy.....Film finshes and we go to leave and low and behold the Landy again wont start yet another problem ! Eventually he gave in and let me tow the landy out of the car park space backwards with the jimny and then we towed the landy across the carpark to bump start it (couldnt pus as it was up hill). Thats the second time this year the jimny has saved his landys. Normally he takes the Pi$$ out of the jimny calling it jap **** and all sorts on a real regular basis, Strangley its stopped since friday night ! lol Go for th Jimny you wont regret it ! Conygree
Ok guys I'm up for the Jimny 'coming out party' well not quite - it's my wifes No really I bought it for her from new 02, and it's brill both on and off road and reliable. being a mini jeep it's not too good for long trips so + 60 is not too good but for local trips it's brill, can park it easy and drop the back for loads. In the snow no probs, putting on a set of chains on and it's great fun. The steering is very responsive and the motor is a bit much for it at times, it must be the best fun 4x4 by far - so if you have never owned a 4x4 B4 by one you won't regret it Edited August 31, 2011 by Conygree
Salop Matt
Conygree, your spot on there about the turning circle ! Its great for parking in tight spots and move round in woods ! Never put snow chains on ours, its always managed fine without and its a propper 4x4 system with Hi and Low range !
Salop Matt
The one thing I would be curious about though is a lift kit just to get extra gound clearance ! But am not sure how it would effect insurance and performance/handling !
Conygree
The one thing I would be curious about though is a lift kit just to get extra gound clearance ! But am not sure how it would effect insurance and performance/handling ! Hi SS - need a kiddy seat in the back yet? we met up at Edge hill you had a go with my pump 410. I brought the snow chains for my old 4x2 Ranger that also fit the Jimny, work well in mud & snow. The early Jimny types were well known for doing 'tumble turns' into ditches, so for me no way for road.. I have heard that if you feel the need to fit bigger wheels you can go to 215 but after that you need a lift kit One amusing Jimny story, most are driven by women but my hunky son borrowed the Jimny to go on his chainsaw course and was tailgated by an old Toyota pickup, fed up with the bullying my son stopped and got out holding a felling lever. The guy in the Toyota slumped into his seat avoiding eye contact whilst locking his doors :o Edited September 1, 2011 by Conygree
