durbsguy
Are airguns meant to be kept in a safe? I've been told that if I don't purchase a safe I'm not welcome back at the HFT club. I'm waiting for mine to come across in a container ship as I have recently relocated. I keep my airguns in a cupboard in the study, the door is always locked when not in use and the burglar alarm is set for the downstairs area every night or whenever we go out. We have no dependants at present and thus don't have to worry about kids getting hold of the guns. I thought that taking reasonable precaution was needed to stay legal. cheers
vampire
I think ! the law states that you must prevent access to the gun by minors under 18 yrs of age. Do a search on here,i am sure its been covered

My FEO knows I don't lock up airguns unless the in-laws visit. I hope your club don't turn out to be nobs.

What the hell has it got to do with them what your domestic arrangements are ? Who the hell do they think they are ? Sounds like you need to find yourself another club, One where the 'officials' are not so up themselves and instead remember that a club (& its officials) should serve its' membership, NOT the other way around. -Mongrel-
Are airguns meant to be kept in a safe? No, there is no legal requirement to 'safe' an airgun, they just need to be kept safely out of access to minors. Quoted "It is an offence for a person in possession of an air weapon to fail to take reasonable precautions to prevent any person under the age of eighteen from having the weapon with him." I've been told that if I don't purchase a safe I'm not welcome back at the HFT club. Seriously? Unbelievable! I personally would ask them to stick to worrying about clubbusiness and let you worry about your home security! HDAV
Unless of course it's an FAC air rifle then yes you need a safe ( just like for centre/rimfire) for sub 12 ft/lbs no safe required! Just prevent acces to minors, the guidance even says on top of a high cupboard may be suitable! It's the owners responsibility to make storage suitable. I would print out the law and tell them to "read it" not just what the rumour mill says....... Edited August 22, 2011 by HDAV
Fat toad
Hi you said your safe is coming in a container ship did you need it where you come from??? And are you now in England or where are you and did the HFT club want you to leave the rifle at the club in your own safe just thinking what's it got to do with them unless it's FAC still not their problem it's yours
durbsguy
The safe I needed because I had proper guns. I've been fortunate enough to have been working in Australia, South Africa and Swaziland for the last 5 or so years. I'm planning on bringing across my shotguns and .22 rifle and hopefully my H&H 375 Magnum. I think the guys at the club are part of the health and safety nuts after speaking to my local airgun shop

-Mongrel-
Unless of course it's an FAC air rifle ... Absolutely, but unlikely if it's being used at a HFT club.
