twitchynik
Do you need a FAC to be able to buy/own/use a rifled choke? Was talking about it in the gun shop today but no-one knew. I'm sure you need one for a rifled barrel for your Extrema etc. just not sure about choke only.
shot shot
not illegal, chokes are just lengths of threaded pipe at the end of the day But unless you can get sabot slugs, whats the point?
JJsDad
As you are probably aware, shotguns with a rifled choke section were designed in an attempt to provide the hunter with a gun caperble of firing a conventional shotgun cartridge or a solid slug / ball. The patterns using conventional shotgun cartridges were typically very open and usually produced improved cylinder patterns. As solid ball and slugs are classed as Sect 1 and therefore require an FAC to purchase & hold, the question over the gun becomes a bit academic. However I think you will find that the UK law on these guns is defined in the term "Shotgun" which clearly states the gun must be smooth bored with a barrel length of 24in. minimum. If the barrel is rifled in part or over its full length it is not smooth bored and therefore would be subject to an FAC. Perhaps our resident BASC rep may expand on this. AmateX
A friend had a Paradox that was held on a SGC, obviously the solid slug requires a FAC to purchase.
kent
Cant put one in semi auto or pump anyhow
twitchynik
Thanks lads I'll not be buying or holding slug, only use them when away on shooting trips and the sporting agent provides the ammo. You can get a rifled (paradox) choke for my semi (Fabarm), I'm just curious if anyone knew if it required FAC to buy/own/use it. Seems inconclusive so I'll speak with my firearms officer on Tuesday and find out.
welshwarrior
I now hold mine on SGC as I only use slugs at the moment outside the UK on boar etc. My feo is happy as long as I don't use my shotgun with sect 1 ammo in the UK

timmy1146
Late reply on the topic! But i was always told a rifled choke tube would make your shotgun be considered as a section 5 semi auto rifle
Underdog
Any one can buy a rifled tube,,,, the moment it has a chamber added it becomes part of a firearm. A rifled choke tube does not have a chamber and when fitted to a shotgun will not stop a shotgun from being used as a shotgun. A slug or ball from a shotgun can and is discharged from many a smoothbore, a rifled choke tube changes nothing legal wise as to whether a slug or ball can or can not be used. Any other thinking is assuming! U.
welshwarrior
I've used slugs for years and have rifled choke tubes. This appears to be a very grey area for feos but I agree with the above. I've actually found they don't make a massive improvement I currently use a tight skeet to get the best group with buffalo slugs from game bore
