after reading the recent posts on crayfish i decided to dust off the drop nets and try my usual haunt i havent been there for a couple of years . i used 2 drop nets and fished for exactly 1 hour (prompted by one of the other posts)total catch was 69, i never moved about just dropped in the same 2 spots the place must be infested with them :good: might have to go fully armed next time with my 6 pots and 4 drop nets :yp:

Hi Holly, that looks like an impressive haul, well done.

Let us know what you do with them.

Huffhuff, twitchynic, billy and me, bakerboy, went out today, not sure how many we have caught as yet, but look for Billys thread tomorrow it should be interesting.

:yahoo:

Wait until you see billy's thread tomorrow :yes: .

Not sure how many we caught today :hmm: but the guesses are between 187/195/210/234/243/250.

We had one hell of a day and a lot of good fun along the way :lol: .

I cannot wait to see billy's thread with the add on banter from Twitchynic and huffhuff :good::good: .

I am not sure who was harder to control, my 9 year old grandson or 3 late twenty's lads around town :P .

I purge them in water for a day, rinse & cook for 4 minutes then let stand in the water for 10 minutes. Once shelled and cleaned up they taste just like prawns. I've used them in salads with a Marie rose sauce; homemade scampi and the next lot I get I'm going to do a curry with them. I guess the colder weather is having an impact on the size of the catches as they don't appear to be as active as in July.

HPH :good:

Some areas require a license others not, most bailiffs just want rid of them  .

For bait any old food fish is best :good: .

10/12" round drop nets with the bait in a net tied to the drop net, refresh the bait when they stop climbing in the net on a regular basis :lol::lol:

ive tried fish baits but what i find works best is a raw chicken wing tye wrapped to the center of the drop net i was playing with various baits in the shallows and when chicken went in they went nuts for it :good:

Today we used Rabbit and pigeon, oh and in 1 net a Banana skin.

I am not sure how many we caught, Billy, philr, Cosd, (now well and truly hooked if you forgive the pun)myself and my brother. my guess would be 270 in 2 hours.

Phil and Cos shared the catch and final numbers will be posted tomorrow some time.
