Pro's and cons of neo chesties?

Pro's:

warm

keep you dry

keep you clean, can sit down and not get your backside muddy/wet

Cons:

can be too warm

can make walking very long distances hard work

can be tricky if you need to negotiate any fences etc

a good way of killing your mobile is to put it in the little front pocket then wade just a bit too deep (done that x 2)

bit of messing around if you need a pee

the two issuses i have with chesties are this

They still come with a rubbish boot thats not fit for purpose of keeping you warm (why dont muck boot do them)

they ruck up at back of knees when you squat or kneel and make you sore

You need to buy from the states. My red ball waders just got holed last season they did me about ten years - just! the suspender buttons actually rusted out years previous. The boots were very oversize and came with a sepparate foil blanket type booty. Changed to a pair of Cabalas breathables that i wear with two pairs of big warm socks now, fitted with a wader belt and adjusted no issues with either rucking up. Gonna buy an insulated boot neo from states if its as cold this year as last though. Your right though muck boot neoprines would be great :good: A good idea for spring salmon and winter Greyling perhaps cod from the winter beaches

  • 3 weeks later...

In my usual ars* about ti* fashion, I've gone and joined a fowling club. I do not however know what I need!!!

I'm a probationer for a year, so, what am I going to NEED, and what would be nice to have?

I'm guessing the list goes something along the lines of:

Gun.(I have a steel proofed o/u, but, should I be on the lookout for a semi auto?)

Steel carts (sizes? mainly duck I gather)

Camo jacket/hat

Waders? (If so what type?)

Hide? I have some camo nets and poles, is this adequate?

What else please?

Anyone interested in a 10ft plastic open boat for wildfowling, with air cooled 3.5hp yamaha engine.Ready to go,may even paint for you.on a road trailer with lighting board, oars and lifejackets.if so please give me a call on 07986971964,Regards steve

I am still old fashioned I guess after reading these posts, but I find it interesting what you all take.

My kit depends on the weather/tide etc but comprises of:

Gun + Steel load cartridges.

Dog + Acme 210 1/2.(dog needs to be a strong swimmer)

Neoprene Waders with old cut off leggings. (far easier to fold the tops of waders down for the walk to where you shoot).

Wellingtons and waterproof leggings.

I have 2 coats..summer and winter. Both gifted to me by an American guest who come pigeon shooting with me...cabelas.

Heat Holder Thermal Socks..these are the best I have ever owned.

Neoprene gloves for the cold + warm hat.

Camo Face Veil..same as for Pigeon Shooting.

Flask of Coffee. Small snack to share with the dog.

Small bottle of water and a travel type folding dog bowl (left in the car unless its warm weather).

Already studied the tide table, moon and weather forcast/conditions.

Game Bag..30+ year old made by the prison service...best bag ever for the flask and bits and bobs. Also used to sit the dog on !

Small peice of old hessian sack..just to dry the dog off if she gets an early swim if its cold weather.

Small LED torch. Mozi Guard (Sept). Goose Call. Widgeon Whistle. Membership Card..all in choke pouch of gun slip.

Mobile Phone...fully charged with Compass App installed.

Wading stick.

I always go with optomism and usually come back with the thought 'if only'
