Had a drive around today and did not see a single bird on any of my farmers stubbles so does not look like the gun will be getting a outing this week again  I think things will be lean for me now until they get going on the rape (if they do), seems that every time I start to get to grips with my auto the shooting dries up then after not going for sevral weeks I have to start over again :o

Never mind I am planning to do some more door knocking this winter and hopefully the farmers will be more accomodating if their rape is getting hammered  well thats the cunning plan anyway !

Also keeping my fingers crossed that the pinkfoots will arrive on my permission this year some they do and some they dont, had 100s on there last Oct just in time for my annual fishing trip to france  my wife bless her took some photos of them to show me what I had been missing :cry1: so I am doing the french trip a couple of weeks earlier this year just in case !

To be honest I was not too suprised for some reason I cant ever remember shooting a good bag on wheat stubble and a decent bag on winter rape is unlikely too though I have had some decent days on it around march/april time.

Ive seen birds on winter rape already ive about 40 fields in so far with more being drilled every day ,ive only ever shot 2 big bags on rape best being 146 but get around 30 to 50 quite abit but also get low bags of 8 or 12 quite a bit

I've reported the same, acres and acres of swathed rape, lots of birds but extremely decoy shy, its been a really bad year for pigeon shooting my way, I've tried alsorts, had advice but nothing has worked particulary well.

Rape is been drilled as we speak, see if that brings anymore luck.

You lucky ******, having the pinks on your land. I've a fair bit of land to shoot around the Walpoles but the pinks rarely seem to be seen there. Never mind, hopefully they will be in soon. Saw some near Sutton bridge on the 12 Sep last year. It certainly makes the marsh car parks fuller when they arrive.

Like I said some years I have them some I dont they are always coming over my house though as I am less that a mile from the wash as the goose fly's just depends if they take a fancy to the fields I can shoot got some beet behing my house this year so hopefully there will be some tops for them to feed on if they are left long enough, last year they were just on some land that was waiting to be drilled .
