Redgum
Just starting reloading 308 for fallow, sika, and red, I'm thinking 150gr soft nose, anyone have any advice.
Ackley
I used to load 150gr interbonds for a mates 308 worked very very well but an expensive bullet, but if you dont plink paper its not so bad if only shooting deer,he did use SSTs but had too many runners
Vermincinerator
One of my mates uses Sierra 165grn Gamekings in his 30-06 he says they are devastating on red hinds. Ian.

I don't reload but am fortunate to get a few from those that do. Just the Same I almost exclusively us the Factory 150g SP in my .308, good balance of weight and performace, and does what I want of the .308, if I want a different result I use a different calibre! coyotemaster
Assuming you have a 10 twist the 165gr Sierra is a great bullet. If the 155 Gr. Berger VLD will stabilize it is devastating on deer size game. Check it out on You Tube. I do realize that it is a target bullet but it's effect is dramatic on game animals. The 155s on top of 47.5 grns. Varget is an exceptional load in most .308s.

Sounds if 150gr is a good choice then, as we all know shot placement is critical. I shot a strong fallow pricket last weekend at 160yds with 100gr sp delivered from my 243 remmy, the deer managed about five paces before dropping down stone dead. The bullet had taken the top of the heart out with little carcass damage but on bigger bucks fueled with testosterone I feel a larger calibre would do the job better. I use vit160 for both 85gr and 100gr bullets in 243 and works very well, better than H414 and its a 20inch barrel. From what I can see in the reloading tables Varget seems to be the favourite for 308 right from 110gr up to 190gr bullets. kent
I would have said Gamekings i think they come in a 150, i used 140's in my old 7-08 extensively on fallow for some time. I have a contact who just shoots Fallow proffesionally full time and uses 130 Nosler b/t i think thats the weight he suprised me with his choice being quite lightweight in a std 308. He does a fair bit of high neck shooting though
garyb
150grn is fine for fallow I use Sierra gamekings in mine with varget... they don't get up again Edited September 14, 2011 by garyb
Harnser
If you feel need to experiment then definitely try 150 grn soft point driven by 45 grains of vit 140 . It will kill any deer very dead . Its the only bullet that I load now and use it for all deer and foxes . Harnser .
Redgum
Cheers gents, think 150gr sierra prohunters, one thing with the sierra's, I dug a 100gr out of a fallows skin on the far side and it weighed 53grs!maybe it was going a bit fast ( though I'm chroning between 2900 and 2910 at five yrds ) looking forward to loading for 308, seems such a capable round. Stick with the 150 grain .308 and you will have a bullet suitable for any european deer or antelope . Any deer shot with the 150 grain bullet that is not dead within 100 yards of the spot were it was shot is down to pilot error . Harnser . Dekers
This one seems to be going round a bit and without doubt different types and weights of bullet will suit different rifles, disciplines, quarry. I like 150g, but I don't fire off 1000's of .308 a year. I have a lot of different calibres, but I do find 150g works well in my rifle, it has a decent trajectory and terminal effect, and for whatever reason, the PRVI 150g SP does plenty well enough for my requirements!!
