A L A N
HI all, As a new member of these forums I really appreciated all the information and advice while looking to buy my first Semi-Auto. My first gun 12 or 13 years ago was a Browning B325 that I bought at auction, and it has served me well, but since buying a Bettinsoli Diamond Deluve , and a Berettea Silver Pigeon V it hasn't had much use ! Prompted in part by a really mad day on Pigeons over Barley stubble a few days ago, I got to thinking that that a Semi Auto might be a good investment, and after takling on board all the advice here I went to look at a second hand super X3 Field ( the version with the nice wooden stock ) 28" barrel, 3" chamber, in very nice condition at a dealer not too far from where I live. I tried it out on one of the dealers Clay stands - really nice feel to it, light ( 6 and half pounds compare to the 7 and a half pounds of my other 2 guns ), and comfortable to mount and swing. Taking into account this was the forst time I have ever fired a semi, I was really impressed with it - much less recoil than I've been used to, and I even managed to break both of the first "pair" at the first attempt ! ( without resorting to the 3rd cartirdge ! ) . I like it so much that I bought it there and then - and got a really good deal - part exchanging my 20 year old Browning for £225 more than I originally paid fot it :-) Just hoping the weather holds up now or this weekend, so I can try it out on the stubble again :-)
Yoggy
Good choice. The winchester is a superb bit of kit.
SirDread
Benelli all the way. Proven reliability and when you look at their range its pedigree hunting shotgun with the exception of the supersport. Yanks love Benelli's for hunting, yanks love Benelli's for the military Reliability is second to none Build quality is superb Felt recoil IMO is more manageable Less cleaning than a gas gun. Simplistic action making stripping down so much easier to do Bought new ships with a 5 year warranty. Re-sale value is comparable with beretta and browning but better than winchester. Rugged enough to take on the weather They dont sound like a tractors gearbox when cycling cartridges - Best semi's out there -
ziplex
Had my Benelli M2 for a few years now and it's never missed a beat. Gets covered in mud and soaked but it's still in great nick.....it is light which makes it pointable and easy to carry although i'd agree with the comments about it being a bit recoil heavy but it's never bothered me in the slightest. I had a Franchi Raptor before this which I liked but the barrel started to rust at an alarming rate so px'd it for the M2 and happy I did. Great gun. Harnser
shame to throw away good money on other brands, which will also let you down given time. Not quite true . Buy a hatstand and yes you will lose money . Buy a beretta and you will at least get your money back or make a profit . Harnser

Si-Bore
Had a Beretta Urika 1, tried everything, but it jammed like mutha and drove me insane. All guns are different, but I wouldnt buy another Urika. Did it fail to feed? The Urikas are quite renowned for that unless you fit a 390 carrier which is a slightly different shape. Beretta refused to admit there was a problem to avoid mass recall. I fitted the carrier to mine and zero FTF,s whereas the standard FTF every 50-100 shots. Drove me mad. Salop Matt
When i first went looking for a semi auto I wanted a mossburg but was then pushed towards a SX3 which looked great and I was excited about......... Until i picked one up and was dissapointed, it just felt cheap and tacky....admittedly not quiet as bad as a escourt but still was never a patch on the Benelli !
