hi.

can anyone tell me the name of the birds that keeps annoying me when decoying pigeons. :hmm:

all i can tell you is that its,

top half is black and white underneith, it has a inch and halfish feather pointing backwards from its head.

they seem to fly really high then swoop straight down to land. they always chase crows and magpies from the fields and there inland birds as im in doncaster.

ive looked on rspb site but cant see them

sorry if the info is vague.

cheers chaps for that... :good:

the reason they get on my tits as there hundreds where i am, they always seem to gather round my pattern swooping in and out all day getting me up and down off my shooting seat thinking there pigeons coming in when i see the flicker in the corner of my eye.

also i always put out a few crow deeks out of the pattern but they chase off the crows before i get to shoot them..

thanks.

It must be great to see them and their call is most distinctive Peewwiitt, thus their other name 'Pewit'. As a child in Gloucestershire we used to get loads on the flood plains and meadow pastures, not many now, in matter of fact I havent seen any in the place I grew up in years.

Get your self a good bird book identification book mate ! I take you are not Italian ! because they dont even care ! . Their attitude is if its got wings you can shoot it !

I take it you must be new to shooting ? bird identification is most important as if you make a mistake it could land you in very hot water !

A book I have had for years & years is A Field Guide to the Birds of Britain & Europe by Roger Peterson,Guy Mountfort & P.A.D Hollom . Published by Collins I hope its still avaliable so check out Amazon its field guide ie it will fit into a game bag or large pocket. Good Shooting , Pole Star

Its said that lapwing numbers are in decline, so you should be glad you've got so many of them! They have one of the best and most distinctive calls of any bird!

Its amazing what decoys can pull. I remember when I saw my first buzzard. Me and my mate were decoying over some winter drilling when we saw a dot high in the sky but dropping rapidly. It got to within 30ft above the decoys and must have realised what they were and flew off and landed furhter down the hedgeline. It was an amazing sight!
