Nickt
Hi guys. I wonder if anyone knows if it will be ok to use shotgun bore cleaner to clean a rifle barrel. I recently purchased a cz452 varmint that would like to clean for the first time (no previous experience with rifles, just shotguns). Many thanks
steve_b_wales
Any gun oil will work with shotguns or rifles. I use various makes, but a good one is HOPPES 009. Steve.

bullet boy
I totally agree with Steve. In fact Steve recommended me to use Hoppes 009 Bore Solvent which is all I use as it's superb and leaves your barrel looking spotless!! Blunderbuss
Hi guys. I wonder if anyone knows if it will be ok to use shotgun bore cleaner to clean a rifle barrel. I recently purchased a cz452 varmint that would like to clean for the first time (no previous experience with rifles, just shotguns). Many thanks Some good advice already but what calibre is your 452? If it's a .22LR a lot of people would recommend NOT cleaning the barrel. All the .22s I've used have shot much better if you leave the barrel alone. On the odd occasions I have given it a good clean accuracy goes to rat **** and takes ages to settle back down, well until it gets dirty again! A bit different if its a HMR, the higher velocity and jacketed bullet do foul the bore more and I find mine tails off after a few hundred rounds so does get a clean then. As Steve says Hoppes 009 solvent is good for cleaning, but leave the barrel dry unless you're going to be storing for a long time.
phaedra1106
Another vote for Hoppes #9, bought a 2 pint bottle last trip to the US for under £9!, bear in mind that as it's a solvent you should run an oily patch through after cleaning with it, I use Hoppe's Elite Gun Oil. Chr15j
Unless inaccurate, don't clean it! I have only cleaned my cz .22 once and then blew 50 rounds before it was accurate again. Leave well alone. If it ain't broke....
remy 700
ditto to the two guys above , DO NOT CLEAN IT!
gixer1
I don't clean my rifle barrels either, just all the other bits! The next round through it will clean it as a friend of mine always states! A couple of times a year give the barrel a clean for inspection purposes.... steve_b_wales
ditto to the two guys above , DO NOT CLEAN IT! I agree. My BRNO .22LR has not had the barrel cleaned for approx 2 years, and during that time, over 1500 rounds have been put through it. It's still very accurate. Nickt
Thanks guys. It is a .22 cal. It is accurate but I though about given it a clean as the guy I bought it from used copper bullets as well as lead.
