yankeedoodlepigeon
Hi all. Getting a mod this week and was wondering which one to get the only 3 I know of are ,Ase utra T8's or wildcats. What one would you go for and why? Thanks Ydp
Redgum
I have a wildcat Pred 8 on mine, slightly lighter than T8, there are quieter ones but none will be like a .22lr with subs on a 308. The great thing about the wildcat is that you can strip it down plus get spares for it so in theory it should be a lifetime investment. ( but if I had the money I would buy a titanium model as weight is always going to be an issue on the end of a rifle barrel.) yankeedoodlepigeon
Quicksilver make that mod and supposed to be in the UK but I can't find them.
phaedra1106
Also got a Predator 8 on my .308 and as said it doesn't reduce noise on normal loads by much but it may reduce muzzle flip for a rifle without a muzzle break already fitted. I've also made some subsonic loads for my .308 and with the mod they are very very quiet.
njc110381
I don't really like T8's. The Wildcat is a good mod but is quite large. My choice of the three would be the Ase - I'd recommend the Northstar if you want over barrel or the S5 if not. Both are very well built, not the lightest but very good and also quite compact. I've had a Wildcat, still have an S5 and a Northstar.
yankeedoodlepigeon
So if a mod will not reduce the sound would I be better going for a muzzle break? As I wanted to reduce the BOOM and recoil.

NO!!! A brake will increase the noise you hear - they can cause some serious hearing damage! A mod does reduce he noise by a good margin, it's just that the sonic boom from a large bullet is still quite loud. A mod will reduce the rifles report from needing hearing protection to being able to shoot without defenders or plugs.
highseas
and cut recoil out a lot
yankeedoodlepigeon
A mod it is then. Its a Tikka t3 lite short barrel would a predator be too big for it? I know I could just go along to a shop but one shop has one mod another has a different one plus its a metric thread so narrows it down even more. phaedra1106
Still wouldn't shoot my suppressed .308 without hearing protection, it's obviously quieter than shooting without it and a lot quieter than when it had the muzzle break fitted, but it's not that quiet!. Reckon you must have a faulty mod old mate, my pred 8 on my Tika T3 Hunter makes a lot of differance, not alot louder than my 243 with the same on. No need for hearing protection, reduced recoil, only thing with a lightish gun like a Tika hunter is it makes it a little nose heavy but you get used to it. My Remmie 700 243 has a hogue full alley bedded stock and is better balanced but quite a bit heavier than the Tika. Roedale is another one out there, lighter than the P8 but louder. Dekers
So if a mod will not reduce the sound would I be better going for a muzzle break? As I wanted to reduce the BOOM and recoil. Muzzle breaks are a SERIOUS health hazard for anyone in the came county as you when you let go a shot!
Mr_Logic
Over at Oundle we often have two or three under cover together, very noisy! I have a PES/MAE on mine, it's lightweight but heats up easily. The P8 compact is a good mod, also have an ASE JetZ and that's probably the best.
