cockercas
Hi.last night I was looking thru various load datas for some quick .243 loads. Sierra load data. max load 43gr varget. Giving 3600fps. But I'm using 60gr hp bullets. Carnt comment if its any good as I've not bought the stuff yet.
highseas
i did make up 20 odd bullets 3 of each in .3 grain incresements. and the bloody thing is still shooting 2 inch groups the barrel is floating and its been cleaned ******* thing
Redgum
Not sure what age your gun is but remmy 700 243's usually have 9-1/8 twist and prefer a heavier bullet, I would forget varget and reload something slower, ideally viht160 with some 90gr plus bullets. Make sure you start with data oal, remmies like a bit of a run up.
Underdog
I use to use H4350 in my 243's. Lovely slow forgiving powder. This does not help you I know. Me personaly have never really gained anything usefull from 1/3 grain increments other than wasting time and powder. 1/2 grians for me untill I get really flat primers or more than .004" case head expansion, which ever comes first. My current Rem shot poor untill I noticed the bolt handle touching the stock when shut! Not much mind. Dremal time and now it a shooter Underdog. highseas
well it went fro shooting ppu 90grn soft points 1/2 inch at 100m to just over 2inch overnight! ive tride every thing to sort it out diffrent bullets, cleaning, floating the barrle, on the bi-pod off the bipod, and now reloading the stress leavles are riseing
Redgum
Scope maybe, dont get stressed, if it was shooting well then there will be a good reason for it going off, you cleaned it with a good copper solvent lately. Maybe its not the ammo.
highseas
yep vp-90(?) and bore foam. i was thining the scope its a old crappy tasco ( ) but its not moveing in the mounts ive tested for that
cockercas
Only a suggestion. Have you developed a flinch or something similar. Has someone else tried shooting a group with it.??

highseas
nope no mod i think what ile do is tale the scope off my 17hmr and fit it to the 243 for a hour just to se if it is that if not back to the drawing board Edited October 25, 2011 by highseas
cockercas
You don't happen to have on of those daft grub screw in the mounts do you. I had one and it worked loose and started giving me problems.
highseas
i dont think so, ive got a blob of clear nail varnish on all the joints of the mounts, so if at moves the varnish cracks hows that for a tip
cockercas
Is it a different batch of ammo? A bad batch maybe. Has the rifle been dropped/banged about. Extreme Changes in temp? I have a load of remington/winchester you could try to see if it shoots straight with them. When you change scopes please post back the outcome. I'm most intrigued
willy1
Highseas, you say the barrel is floating? did you do that? when I had the rifle it had a small rise in the stock near to the end of it (barrel end) and the barrel rests on this.I e-mailed Remington about removing this and was advised not to,it could cause the problems you are having.
