minghis
Popped into the gun shop today for some rabbit ammo and they didn't have any Remington .22 HV's so came away with some CCI MiniMag instead - HV's, hollow point 36gram - and paid £12.50 for 500. Anyone ever used them and did I get a good price? They seemed too cheap, or am I just out of touch with prices?
Dead-Eyed Duck
Go on - you must be THE gun owner that CCI magnums showed a decent group in his gun Don
Dunkield
CCI = inconsistant I my experience. Used them once, won't bother again.

Dead-Eyed Duck
Go on - you must be THE gun owner that CCI magnums showed a decent group in his gun Don ? meaning I must have had at least a dozen rimmys in my time: Brno (3 of them) Krico Sako Anchutz (2 of them) Ruger 10/22 etc I used to have various boxes of different make ammo to find the best performer in each gun. Not one showed a decent group at all using CCI mini mags. For the record, the most consistently accurate hollowpoint subsonics have been Eley, with Winchester a very close 2nd. In the CZ, Ruger and Anschutz semi-autos that I have had, Winchester were the best all-round performers as the extra energy (compared to Eley) meant that feeding and ejection was more reliable. Frank
I tryd CCI in my CZ 452, did not like them at all. Could not close the bolt properly and it did not eject a live round from time to time. Winchester subs all the way, for my rifle anyhow.
Dead-Eyed Duck
I agree, eley are no 1 with winchester a very close second. Eley seem more accurate, winchester seem to kill a bit better due no doubt to the bigger cavity in the point. Exactly my experience fister. But I am sure that there are others that disagree. minghis
Oh dear - it looks like I've bought the wrong ones - still, they were cheap. I'll go out over the weekend and see what groups I can get with a couple of targets before I use them for the bunnies. Thanks everyone for your replies! Dunkield
See how you get on, if nothing else they will be cheap for practicing - you may well get on with them, but I would try the others as well. Bit late for the advice now - but.... I would always try a few of something before buying a load of them just to make sure they are OK (unless you live miles form your gunshop that is)
Bazooka Joe
Never did have much success with CCI's, never tried the MiniMags yet........... Eley in my veiw, you pay for the name, they come way behind Winchester. Fisters right with the killing power of Winchester, with all the hollowpoints on the go, Winchester has to be the one that expand's the most, contributing greatly to an effective kill. The 40g bullet helps also. minghis, a word of advice, try them all, settle in with what the gun likes best, then stick with them.
