Hi from a fellow lefty i scoured the country for a factory LH stock as i wasnt happy with a bent stock (wrong palm swell and the angle of the toe) using various techniques the gunsmiths can bend the stock some use Lamps some steam some hot oil however none will guarantee they wont split the wood or it wont straighten back over time, some good results can be achieved I'm not local so cant recomend anyone but I am sure more local members can.

Depending on the gun you may get a LH stock P/X for your stock which is a better option what gun?

afternoon people, i am as left hand shooter and recently brought a right handers over and under can anybody tell me how much it would cost for a good gunsmith to bend or whatever the technical word is for it, my stock into a central position or slightly left hand cast ?

hi Matt,

As another leftie that has had several R/H guns cast to fit me expect to pay £40-60 if you go to the gunsmith direct, £60 to £100 if you take it to a gunshop. don't be put off by the gunsdmith working in his garage - if you go to the gunshop they will only sub the work to a chap working out of his garage anyway!

This is assuming you know exactly the dimensions you want on the stock if you dont know speak to a coach and or take a gunfitting lesson (£80 to £100. Alternatively and without extra cost if you are on a budget you should find that most gunsmiths will be able to assess your measurements.

Regarding the potential for a stock to split this is an very uncommon occurence but expect the gunsmith to give a warning - in exactly the same way that surgeons who do laser eye surgery warn of potential vision loss.

Don't be put off by HDAV's comments - While his s comment about the palm swell on some guns is relevant , a good gunsmith could alter that (admittedly at extra cost)and the comment about the cast at toe is also misleading - this can also be set when changing the cast of a gun.

Either which way a gun that has been cast specifically to fit youwill fit better than a factory gun with a L/H stock.

I know a good gunsmith in Folkstone (pm if you want details ) but guess you may be better off getting recommendations for someone closer.
