andythechicken
Hi there Have just started to remove with the steamer the wallpaper from my hall stairs and landing. Started at the landing and found that pulling off the paper results in mostly just pulling off the patterned vinyl part leaving the paper still on the wall and having to steam that off afterwards. Any tips would be great. Cheers Andy
Dorsey
Try scoring the paper first (no, not out of 10...) they make a little scoring roller so that the steam can penetrate through the vinyl covering to the backing behind. Bad Monkey
Like Dorsey said. Failing that, demolish the wall and then build a new one, it'll probably be quicker
silpig5
the best and easyist way to get it off is let someone else do it for twenty quid !!! then go to pub and remenis what a good laugh it was .
fenboy
the only easy way is not to put it on in the first place !, sometimes easier to pull the vinyl coating off dry then steam whats left either way its a chuffing nightmare. andythechicken
thanks for the suggestions all apart from the one about taking the walls down. Landing now finished and taking a lunch break. Have found pulling off sections dry then steaming off the remaining paper best. Andy

Thats the way to do it You should be able to separate/delaminate off the whole top skin in one go as quickly as anything. A whole sheet at a time (like skinning a rabbit). Start at the bottom corner and once you have the layers apart just pull carefully. You shouldn't have to steam the paper layer underneath. It should be like blotting paper. Just soak with water and leave it for a good while to soak in and it should be practically falling off of its own accord. let the water do the work Edited November 6, 2011 by Vince Green
ronttuk
I score any difficult paper, then mix a week water paste mixture the paste holds the water on the paper longer leave it for an hour the paper soaks the water in then scrape it off its got to be a week mix of it just makes a mess
TbirdX
I'm doing my hallway at the moment. I find I just steam over the outer layer, then peel it off and then steam the paper underneath. It's either that or take off and nuke it from orbit......
