stalking trip

I got back last night from 2 days stalking down in the south of England, the weather was not the best, and the deer didn't make much of an effort to show :welcomeani: but i had loads of fun, got wet and **** up to the eyeballs :lol:

The first morning produced nothing as it was raining hard. We decided to sit up a high seat in the evening and after about 30 mins in the seat a Roe Buck made a show at about 80 yards to the left of the seat, it ran on about 20yards and dropped dead. Just after the Buck was shot the heavens opened once more :( (no pics of this buck as i forgot to take the camera)

The second morning produced nothing :(

The last outing promised to be better than the previous 3 as the weather had improved. Within 2 minutes of leaving the motor we spotted a Muntjac Doe but i didn't get a chance to get a shot off as it disappeared into the thick cover :lol:

We made our way towards a high seat and came across a Buck at about 100 yards, i took the shot off the sticks and the buck ran forward about 10 yards.

I gralloched that and we proceeded on towards the high seat when a Muntjac doe stepped out onto the ride we was stalking along. It dropped on the spot, that one was sorted and we got to the high seat. About 15 minutes later a Young Buck stepped out onto the ride but didnt present itself so that i could get a shot into it, after a 5 minute wait i managed to get the shot off. After a wait of about 20 minutes we made our way over to the buck to gralloch it. this done we set off back to the the truck so that we could collect the shot animals. 20 yards past the high seat we had been sat in was a Muntjac just stood on the ride looking at us..... it cleared off before i got a chance to move, as it ran off barking another munty stepped onto the ride from the thick cover...that one was not so lucky as the first and a muntjac buck was added the tally. More gralloching and we continued the trip back to the pickup. A Roe buck spotted us walking along the ride and ran off barking, it stopped about 80 yards away and just stood barking. I got the sticks up but didnt take the shot as it was facing away from me and the only shot that i could have taken was a neck shot which i decided was not on. I watched it for what seemed like an hour then it cleared off never to be seen again. We collected the deer from 2 different parts of the forest and i took a few pics.

To top the evening off, i changed out of my wellies and shooting trousers etc and managed to lock the car key in the boot :good::P It took half an hour an a smashed back window to get into the car i phoned autoglass and its gonna cost nearly 200 quid to fix it :o :o

Heres a few pics

I haven't got the .243 loads sorted yet mate despite the zeroing pics :o .

Loads of memories from the trip mate and i normally shoot about 10+ deer when i go down there after roebucks, i can't believe the difference just 3 weeks made to the amount of deer shot......he's shot 39 since 1st April :lol: but they were just not showing at all, mostly due to the weather i guess and the amount of cover that they now have :welcomeani:

Well done miffy,

Sounds like you had a great time. :good:

I'm taking a mate out on Saturday morning, he's traveling all the way up from Cumbria so my fingers are crossed for him.

Cheers,

Mark.

Hope it all goes well Mark :P

Good man miffy. :lol::lol:

Top shooting. :)

Lovely looking meat and some trophys for the wall, excellent. :D

Cheers Frank......The trophies go down the shed as they upset the feng shuie of the house (she don't like em ) :lol::lol:

I didn't bring any meat back for myself just the one muntjac for Kenzie. I normally just bring a fallow back for myself rather than a roe or muntjac :o

Good shooting Miffy :P:lol:

The weather really put's a spanner in the works.

Went out last week, when i got to my Stalking ground, it was pea soup :o :o

Where is the sunshine :welcomeani::good:

The weather was really bad but we saw 25+ Does plus Fallow and a few muntjac so the deer were about just not the Bucks :lol:

Only saw 5 roebucks and i shot 3 of them didn't shoot another that i possibly could have shot but i'd rather not neck shoot unless it is necessary and i have a solid rest.

:o I know what you mean about the other half not liking trophies, im only allowed 1 head in my house :good: , but i have plans for more. :welcomeani: :o

How come you only eat the fallow? Do the roe and muntjac dont taste as good?

I find fallow very tasty, but have never before tasted roe or muntjac.

I'm only allowed one head in the in the house too and its attatched to my neck :oops: muntjac and roe are both nice to eat but i take my carcasses to the butcher who charges me per carcass so i get alot more return from a fallow :good:
