Livefast123
I've finally got round to submitting my FAC and SGC to the Avon and Somerset police and like most people here I've got the comfy armchair in ready for the long wait! On a plus note, I managed to pick my cabinet up today. S/H 4 gun rifle/shotgun cabinet with ammo safe for £70 off Ebay, was well chuffed with that as it's £180 new and in great condition. Just got to decide where to put it now, have only really got 2 options as it's a new build. I could put it in the understairs cupboard or in the loft?? What kind of questions will the FLO be likely to ask me apart from the obvious 'need' ones. I've asked for a shotgun for clays, .22LR for vermin control and .22 FAC Airgun for oubuilding work etc. I have a 120 acres family farm where I try to control the critters! Do I need to ask for moderators on another slot?

If, like mine, your house is built using the new timber framed construction method it may be worth seeking out your stud and joist location in any built-in wardrobes. After speaking to the Firearms department about where to fix mine, I was given the impression that a cabinet in the loft is not a very good idea and FAO's don't like to see it because of the effort required to put the gun(s) away after a long day of shooting. arjimlad
When you see the FEO ask him to amend your application to include moderators. They are treated as separate firearms somehow! Ditto about cabinets in the loft... My pal got his SGC in about 4-6 weeks from Avon & Somerset. Good luck !
Livefast123
Thanks Guys, I thought as much about the loft but maybe a loft ladder would change their mind. I don't have anywhere else to put it as there is no room anywhere else in the house......kids, women etc. I have a understairs cupboard that I could use and then it would be bolted into the concrete floor. Better ask him to amend it with 2 .22 mods then....one for the FN12 and one for the planned Ruger 10/22 Do they ask about general knowledge stuff? like the range of your chosen calibre, backstops, etc
sandspider
Took 6 - 8 weeks to get my SGC from A & S police. I'm also just about to apply for a FAC, so will watch this thread with interest. Good luck!
TaxiDriver
Be relaxed, Be honest. You'll be asked about previous gun handling experience & knowledge. Chat about safety procedures, safe handling & storage of firearms and ammunition. They're not out to trip you up, just to see you face to face, and make sure you're a reasonable sort. They'll likely go through the SGC or FAC with you and explain how it's filled in, what to do when you buy/sell guns or ammo and what any conditions, ammo quantity restrictions mean. Good Luck. Not so sure about that - mine asked me what the muzzle velocity of a .223 was and the terminal energy amongst other random questions! ajb403
Just got to decide where to put it now, have only really got 2 options as it's a new build. I could put it in the understairs cupboard or in the loft?? The way Avon and Somerset make up the law, sorry, interpret the law is that the cabinet should be upstairs. It would make more sense to have it in your understairs cupboard though if you can bolt it to the concrete, speak to you FEO and ask.
