Hamster
hi all is there anyone out the that could point me to some pigeon shooting in kent or how to go about getting some shooting in my area ? hope someone can help thanks roger B) This is just about the best time of the year to go out seeking permission . You can't beat driving around looking for rape fields being hammered, finding out who the farmer is and approaching him. It sounds incredibly daunting but my own hit rate has been phenomenal although it could just be my looks . It gets easier after the first one. I think the hardest thing for me as someone justing out is going to be not going out and asking for permission, but finding the right fields and more importantly who the farmer is, near me there are a huge number of fields all connected, dont know if its all one farmer's or where the farm house is. (lots of old farm houses about alot just family homes now.)Any offical way of finding land owners quickly??
Cranfield
Look for people working in the fields, try the local Pub, or just look for a working Farm. If its not their land, they will know whose it is. It pays to get out and about as often as possible, you will track them down eventually.

The biggest problem around here ( I'm in Gravesend too ) is that the farmland is owned by the Church or Lord Whatsisname and leased to the farmers. So a land registry search won't help much. A farmer here might have one field on your doorstep, another 5 miles away and a farmhouse near neither. The best way is to approach the farmer whilst he's hitching up a tractor or look for large detached houses with large barns and ask there. Learn about the crops he is growing so that you can talk about the pigeons / rabbits you've seen hammering them. Be prepared to travel too, look for remote areas like Allhallows. Look for crop damage like a bald patch of wheat near a hedgerow / bank or an area of rape that is eaten back to stalks. Farmers are people just like you, some are friendly and helpful, some are strange. An offer of a bit of help around the field might sway it, I got a permission 400yds in front of my house by giving the farmer a couple of hefty chestnut fenceposts I cut from my woods up the road. The best time is probably around 10 onwards as the birds will be moving and will have homed in on their likely restaurants. In practice though what actually happens is that if you are anything like me you ignore the wife talking completely and are always looking around as you drive around in normal everyday life so you would notice what's where anyway. As for homing in on farmers it's simplicity itself. Pull up to the nearest country house, workshop or whatever is close by and knock on their door. Hi, sorry to bother you, I shoot pigeon on Mr. xx's and just wondering if you know who farms that field. Rarely would you come away without the name, location and even a few handy inside information tips . They always seem to know the name and believe me it sounds a lot better walking up to the farmer saying Hello Mr. Wilkinson ........................... ps. Wilkinson is the name of a big farmer chap who our OP would be wise to befriend, he has loads of land around Hoath etc , minutes from Herne Bay.
