DEVON_T Posted November 28, 2011 Report Share Posted November 28, 2011 Hello all, After 5 ½ months of waiting my SGC and FAC finally arrived on Friday! On Saturday I parted with a hard earned wadge of cash and brought home a Beretta SP1 12g and a .17HMR. Following a good clean I took the 12g out for a wander on some land where I usually shoot rabbits. The farm is all pasture but there are a few local shoots and often a stray pheasant or two, along with pigeons in the hedges and copses. About thirty yards into the first field a cock pheasant took to the air and I surprised myself by dropping him with the first shot from the new gun. My beginners luck continued with a pigeon from a little copse and then ended when I spectacularly missed a hen pheasant with both barrels! It was a beautiful afternoon for a wander in the countryside and I'm happy with two out of three birds. The Beretta is a beautiful gun and I don't regret stretching the budget to buy it. It seems to fit well and I'm looking forward to trying some clay shooting. Pigeon Watch is a great resource for new shooters like myself and I have already learnt a lot. DEVON_T Posted November 29, 2011 Author Report Share Posted November 29, 2011 Thanks for the welcome – much appreciated. Don't hold your breath if your applying for a SGC/FAC in Devon and Cornwall! They are not quick. They told me they have lots of renewals that take precedence over grants but I know they’ve been saying that for over a year now. It may help your cause if your chickens are being picked off by a fox etc. A polite phone call every now and then can't hurt but there is a fine line between a reasonable enquiry and being a pain. All the staff I dealt with were friendly and helpful but it didn't get the tickets signed any quicker! rabbit_stu : I live in the South Hams near Totnes.
