stupidsalmon
Just back from a fish up at a fews pools in small stream, part of which runs through my garden. Managed to catch just the one. A beautiful brownie about <1/2lb in size. I took out the camera out to take a photo whilst the fish was still hooked and fighting in the water and pressed capture the button only to find the camera had begun filming so i thought i may aswell leave it filming as i brought in the fish. Then switched the camera to photo mode and just as i was about to take the pic he managed to wriggle from my hands back into the poll and unhooking itself. Fish film Pool where i caught the brownie: I've talked to a bloke who used to fish a larger pool (about 50yrs back) which was several yards further up the stream from the pool i had this brown trout in. He says he used to catch wild brown trout up to 2lbs from there! Only tiddlers around now though Heres the pool, (it was obviously a bit larger back when it accomodated 2lb trout): Cheers SS

stupidsalmon
Frank i probably would've put him back anyway to grow a bit and fight another day, Rod in one hand camera in the other, SS
Dead-Eyed Duck
Beautiful spot. Pity that you can't dam the pool to make it bigger again. Just the kind of spot that I would foul up on a tree on the back cast every time Don
Cranfield
SS, thats a nice facility to have at the bottom of your garden. I would be tempted to explore up (and down) stream, to see if there are any larger pools, then ask permission to fish them. I have only caught a few truly wild brown trout (up to 3lb) and I have returned them all.
flytie
I would rather catch one fish like yours than a thousand stockies! Well done that man Ft

stupidsalmon
Thanks for the replies guys, Its true that catching a wild trout is so much more satisfying than a stocked one, regardless of its size. Just knowing that its grown up independantly, unlike stockies. Theyre often so beautifully coloured in stunning red dots and orangey-browns, much nicer than any rainbow i think. Cranfield, i have permission to fish on all of the stream however above the large waterfall pool the stream becomes to small to bother fishing. Below theres' a couple of other small pools, like the one i caught that brown in, but with no fish rising in them, still worth a try though. The largest wild brown that i've caught was i little over 2lbs in the upper teme on the fly, which i felt obliged to return.
