hanky
Anyone got a better powder for 22.250, tried Vit N140 - seems to be soft on recoil but slow velocity, tried H380 - good velocity but heavy recoil, using 55grn V max bullets, any advice would be appreciated. Varget superb powder for the 250,whay was 140 low on velocity did you take it to the max or to the book Edited December 11, 2011 by Ackley
Dougy
Try dropping to 50grn heads, will reduce recoil slightly but to be honest its never been an issue for me. My load is 39grn H380 and 50 nosler BT. Varget is a very good popular powder for 22.250,

Ackley
Got as far as 36grn,still not happy with velocity, how far could I go? you keep going untill you hit the pressure signs mate or your accuracy drops off,the books are only a "guide" and very much on the conservative side, thats what reloading is all about finding what suits your rifle and not whats in a book Vit 140 is nearly the same burn rate as varget I have used both in the 250,but I used a 52 gr Berger bullet, which wouldnt do you no harm in using there superbly consistant and accurate

I agree that Varget is probably one of the best in a 250 size case. Varget is not temp sensitive and makes a good cold weather powder. humperdingle
I used varget in my '250... Worked very well at 36.5 grains, from memory.

jamie g
i used varget in my rpa to good affect. now I use 39.5 grains of imr 4007 ssc with 50 grain nostler bullet, nostler brass and standard large 200 cci primer. gives a average of 3863 fps and 10 shots into a 5 pence piece group superb powder. abit dirty but who cars as long as you look after and clean your rifle
steve_b_wales
I have only used H380 for my 22-250 loads, but mainly because I can use it for my .243 as well.
garygreengrass
I use varget 36.5 grns and 55grn vmax heads or 38grns varget and 50grn vmax heads, very accurate load I like it but the foxes don"t
bosun
I bought a tub of varget as it will allow me to load my .308 with the same power and reviews put it at the top.
Fat Dog
I use 34.5 grains of Benchmark behind 50gr vmax in my 22-250. Works for me.
