Spaniel
umm i have some sat there in a little vodka since last year, i wonder if they will still be ok
working dog
Ive decanted my slow vodka and thrown a bottle of supermarket sherry on the sloes. Shaking this one about now to get some of the fruit and vodka to impart its goodness onto the sherry to make a poor mans port (ok I may be pushing things a bit there !). I quick taste last night shows that the fruit is making its presence felt already
ack-ack
I bottled 4 gallon of cider today. Its very average but I'm made up with it. Thought they'd turned when I gave them a sniff whilst changing the airlocks but evidently they are okay. Nice and dry, slightly floral and 8%. That will do for me for a first attempt. Funnily enough I bottled my first lot of cider last week, lovely and clear now, very dry but not very carbonated. Just brewing the second 4 litres, this time I've added a bit of sugar to bump up the % from 7 to hopefully 8%.
Thunderbird
Speaking of cider, mixing that with 'used' sloes is good too.
Brown Sauce
Completely agree with pouring cider over the sloe's after decanting. You get a nice pale pink liquid after a month or so. Or if you're like me and keep on forgetting you've left a 2 ltr jar in the back of the cupboard for a year. A deep crimson sloe cider. ack-ack
Speaking of cider, mixing that with 'used' sloes is good too. Thats a new one on me. I might try that with some of the waftier ones I've made that I was keeping for cooking.
ME
Thats a new one on me. I might try that with some of the waftier ones I've made that I was keeping for cooking. I was gonna ask if you had space in your freezer for my spare sloes?
ack-ack
I was gonna ask if you had space in your freezer for my spare sloes? Good one. I'm still smarting about that and will be for a very long time.
Thunderbird
I have a load of vodka soused blackcurrants (which have largely turned into raisins) in my freezer at the moment awaiting further action.
Fatcatsplat
Bung the sloes in some cider and warm it through with a cinnamon stick and a few cloves - Mulled sloe cider - Very nice!!
